Been hearing a sort of squeaking noise coming from the rear driver side of my EK4, had a mechanic look at it and he says that i need to replace the caliper, pad and disc, due to the excessing braking and heating up, though it hasnt even been a year that the rear pads have been on. Could anyone shine some light on the matter. Many thanks.

Copper grease used? It combines with the brake dust and becomes an abrasive etching into the pad clip. When the pad moves in and out it squeeks

Had the rear pads done last year, and the noise has just began a day or so ago. I believe some sort of grease was used when pads install

If you can yourself, take out the pads and clean everything pads and clips from grease/dust and refit.

Also chamfer the pad edges using a smooth file or sandpaper , incase they are ''riding'' on the disc lip , doubt it tho with new discs.

As far as I know that bent metal strip that sticks out makes a squealing sound when the pads are getting low.

when does it squeak.

my jordan squeaks when i drive from off only slightly but then dissapears for the day so only when standing for a while.

AND TODAY the rear driver wheels was smokin due to friction from pad and heat created.

Could be some play with handbrake cable

It was on and off but now the noise seems to be constant, even in reverse. I'm gona try pressure washer on it to clean the build up of dirt/dust and also apply some brake cleaner at the same time.

Cleaned the rear brakes 2dai with the pressure washer and brake cleaner but didnt seem to make any difference, then decided to gt a 2nd opinion on the matter, turns out the calipers are seized coz there no play when the handbrakes off, so this been eating into the pads. Gona have to replace pads and calipers, then it should be VTEC all the way after this!!!!!!!

replaced the rear pads and got hold of a second hand caliper, didnt realise how expensive a brand new one was. But so far the problem seems to have been sorted, lets give a few days and see what happens.

i had the same problem but cant fix till weekend cz of work.
how much did second hand caliper cost and was it ok to fit?
also was it hard to get hold of?

Went to a few JAP scrap yards to buy one but was too big, had to take the old caliper to make sure i was gtin the rite one in the end, paid 20quid man, which wasnt too bad.

ive started getting this same squeek but i think its due to the fact that my dad sprayed wd40 on the caliper when i wasnt around and ive heard wd40 eats brake pads ??
