Okay so I'm posting this up for my brother.. Basically, he has an EK4 and has done a B16B conversion, but still running his uk wiring, as its all plug and play!
And he is having an issue with his speedo, as soon as he boots it the needle goes crazy and flickers at 140, and occasionally when he's booting it then all of a sudden there's a power cut (split second) almost like its hit the limiter, and then comes back in again! And carry on!
We have changed the speed sensor (tried 2) out of another ek9 box and it still does this, does it need a uk speed sensor!? I've asked a few people for him and some people say a wiring issue? Any help is appreciated cheers!

He may be hitting the 112mph speed limiter (not always comes in at 112, sometimes 120) regarding the second cutting out problem?

And regarding the flickering speedo, double check the main earth to gearbox mate (remove, wirebrush and sandpaper for clean connection)

Cheers for your help mate.. I will get him to try this. And get back to you!

Just another thing.. Regards to the 112 limiter, he has a p28 ECU Hondata mapped by romain, at Eurospec, so he doesn't think it's this. Also.. He said he made a big earth cable already and ran it from the engine to the rocker conver, does it need to be to the gearbox?

hmm in that case it sounds like the VSS, has he tee'd off near the ECU for gauges etc? may have a loose connection? check the VSS pin in the ECU, second connector across, row 2, 5th pin. (Pinout found here: .:FFS TechNet : OBD1 ECU Pin out Schematics :.)

What I would also do is make a temporary earth from the gearbox to the negative battery terminal using a jump lead, take it for a spin and see if its any better?

Another thing to note Josh, the plug for the VSS (sensor side, in the engine bay) is very prone to corrosion, could be worth whipping the plug off the sensor, giving it a good scratch with a mini screwdriver and a soaking in WD40, then re-attaching.
