hi everyone,my car went wrong tonight straight after fitting a j's racing decat pipe which i think is purely coincidental as this part has nothing to do with the speedo, anyway what happened was i took the car out for a spin after fitting the decat and noticed that vtec did not engage and then realised that the speedo wasn't working which is the cause for vtec not engaging and then after the speedo had finished fluctuating between 40mph and 0mph whilst driving along at what i would estimate to have been around 30mph the speedo dropped to 0mph and stopped working for good and the engine check light came on on the dash,i took the car to tom at tgm's tonight and he did a diognostic and it flashed out a fault code (17) which is either the speed sensor, ecu,or some dodgy wiring but tom said that their is also a chance it could be the speed converter,on the way home from tgm's the speedo kept fluctuating between my actual speed and 0mph until it eventually dropped to 0mph for good again and the engine check light staying on again so i am now left with no vtec and no speedo which blows, has anybody had this problem and resolved it?? any help would be much appreciated

have you checked the connection at the middle of the speedo line. you can reach it from the engine bay it at the back left of the engine thats what mines was doing and the problem was that it had disconnected itself

start from the gearbox connector directly on the VSS sensor, disconnect, clean terminals, reconnect firmly, test, then take it from there, if the ecu is able to give a fault code for it then the fault lies between the box and the ecu, and not between the ecu and the speedo. :nice:

That sounds like a dodgy converter to me. Find the converter and just connect the two white/blue (i think) back together and disconnect from the converter.

the cause of the problem was due to a dodgy speed converter, cheers dunk:nice:
