Got myself a Simota Carbon intake today.
Took a while to install because I needed to remove the existing resontator box, tubing and OEM airbox.
The tubing is thick rubber with a metal spring reinforcement, passed through the original resontator hole and into the fender well just behind the OEM foglights. The end of the rubber tube has a bell mouth design.

The filter inside is a typical conical design similar to the APEXI cone filter. It comes with a metal brackets and mounting kit, a rubber protective strip to wrap around the carbon box to prevent scratching and 2 nylon straps.

Driving impressions :
From off throttle to around 3000rpm the response and torque has increased noticeable enough to be felt. The Vtec comes in harder, maybe because of the noise i don't know because I have not driven it very hard today due to very bad weather.

For just under 80 UK pounds, I think it is a bargain compared to other stuff. I am sure there are better ones but for the price you cannot beat it.

I'm sure it's better than stock, but it would be much better if the bendy tubing and the carbon airbox were larger. At least larger than the stock mid-pipe.

The diameter is around 77mm, the original EK4 box 80X60 oval and taking air from the inside engine bay.
This one takes it from the outside fender, yes i agree, a larger pipe and box would of been better.

err... correct me if i'm worng but isn't the airflow at the intake be as smooth as possible?.. that simota and oem intake hose looks corrugated which i think will slow the air down alittle.
just my 2cents

Yes it looks corrugated on the outside but inside is smooth.
I could get a stainless pipe to replace the OEM piping to the throttle body but they wanted to charge me an arm and a leg for it so I decide to do it later.

it's only corrugated and ribbed on the outside for her pleasure.... uh...oops..wrong forum...

but yeah... fabricating something a bit larger wouldn't be difficult as an air feed. I wonder how that would affect velocity vs. volume that the engine could ingest.

Thats good comparison!!
I dunno about the volume of air it manages to move, really need a dyno to find out.

Do you know whether this intake will require another tune up or i can I leave it for the time being?

back home, intakes are tuned on the dyno to determine the proper length. It's a pretty neat process to try and determine where you want to place your powerband or even to see if you can correct a particular dip that may be present with your current setup.

I would say you ought to hit the rollers again - but perhaps the best way to determine is to hook up your PLX :p

that's a nice pink intake arm you got there... haha

its nice and good value upgrade but is it worth over stock intake + CAI mod, you can decide.

What freewilly said is true. Those designs always have a defect in slowing down the air. BMC CDA countered this by having fin guides inside the box to create a swirl effect but it still creates drag. Which comes down to efficiency.
