Well I'm looking at buying another 1.4 civic soon. I've been in touch with a member on mcr-vtec about his and hope to buy it once I sort my insurance out.

I was just wondring if you can buy shorter shock absorbers idividually?

For instance if I had those cheap ebay coilover springs, (apparently the car comes with a set to fit) could I buy shorter shocks so I wouldn't burst the standard shocks due to being compressed all the time?

If your on about coilover sleaves, throw them in the bin and get yourself some proper lowering springs or a decent set of proper coilovers. Those sleaves are the biggest pile of shite ever invented!

Yeh they're the ones. I know they are rubbish because my last EJ9 had them on when I bought it and eventually burst the dampers. So I bought some e-bay coilovers and they were a dream.

I was just wondering if they would work with shorter dampers? Could even save me some money.

it just depends how much money you want to spend on a suspension set up of if you want to go cheap just to "slam it" ir if you want to buy a set of say meister rs or buddy club n's and the factor of if you actually want it to handle.

Well with my previous EJ9 I bought a set of e-bay coilovers, like the raceland variety I pressume but from a company called unit3 tuning. They did exactly what I wanted of them which was to slam it and improve the handling.
Obviously they did not perform as well as say meisters as you mentioned, but more than capable for the 1.4 16v engine in my eyes.

I want my next 1.4 slammed. It won't be used for racing or track use and won't be as poweful as a v-tec so I can't justify spending hundreds on components that essentially I can do for the 200 pound mark.

Cheers

Shorter dampers seem to be a big thing on the EU and VW scene but doesn't seem to crop up on the Jap car forums much.
Alot of top Jap brands sell lowering springs with there never being mention of requiring shorter dampers. So IMO don't worry about it.
Dunx

Thanks dunx, the only reason i ask is because on my last EJ9 before i bought coilovers, i had a set of these coilover sleeves and low and behold, my dampers burst. the ride became very bouncy and undesirable.
