S80 Gearbox Ideas.??

Alright, the story is that, since i got the car it has been slightly grinding going in to fourth gear if ya are driving it on.. Did not help at all in Enniskillen doing the drag racing! I think it is just a syncro that is gone but i am just wondering now that if i am taking out the box would i be better doing a job on it...

It's a 98 spec dc2 S80 Box i have..
I was then thinking of putting in an s4c 4th and 5th for better torque in the top gears, or would a 96 spec 4th and 98 spec 5th be the job..

Anyone help me out with this or would i be better to just get my own sorted and keep it original.........?

Any suggestions welcome...?

would u not be better buying a 96 spec s80 and puting your 4.7 final drive into it??? easy done like!! just after doing my s4c

whats the budget? there a full kaaz gearbox forsale on itr-dc2.com lol the best standard mod is 96 spec box with a 4.7 final drive in it for the money. Or 98 spec box with the 96 4th and 5th but its just whether you can find any mate.

everyone always says put the 96 spec 4th and 5th in. friend of mine put an s80 into his ctr and used his 4th and 5th from the original s4c and it sposed to make a big differnce.
@ storiee arent 98 spec 1st 2nd and 3rd better than a 96 spec..why use 96 spec then

Well i cant see the point in buying a whole 96 spec box as my 1st to 3rd my standard 98 spec is ok, so i have my 4.7 there.

I have a b18 98 spec man, and going by what everyone is saying here that box that you were offered seems the way to go...?

Sounds like 4th gear synchro is worn. If you decide to swap the gears replacing the worn parts is something you should definitely be doing. 4th+5th out of a either a 96spec s80 or s4c gearbox will fit.

If your thinking of doing a full rebuild be ready to factor in wear and tear / worn parts . (Bearings/seals/synchros bout €320 from the U.S incl. diff bearings) + selector sleeves / gears / selector parts / selector forks / shims / clutch fork pivot

1st 2nd and 3rd are the same in both s80s and s4c boxes lads ! i just think if u buy a good s80 96 spec stick in your final drive u have all done!

to buy the syncros and the 4th and 5th gear will be hard done second hand!!! because everyone wants that set up!!!

either way your going to be out the same sort off money!!!

i got my dc2 with standard box and put in 4.9 and made a massive difference,but its really only good for track as its pretty short.I also have a 98 spec box in my jordan and after 3rd its noticeable the drop in power.The 96 spec box has far better 4th and 5th. so if i was you thats def what id be buying

Also if i were to put in a 96 spec or s4c box for the 4th and 5th, do they have the synchro's in them or is it a different part completely, never done anything with a gearbox b4....

S4C 4th and 5th gear is a great upgrade. Just had it done on mine and pulls so much better through 4th and 5th and doesn't have that awful gap between 3rd and 4th!

Yeah i'd say that will be the way to go now alright, did you do yours in a dc2 or whta man..? If i was to do it would i be a lot higher in the revs when in 5th.......?
