Right I have a set of Spoon rigid collars in my possession which I have had sent off to a University metallurgist who has determined the exact composition.

A very good friend of mine has access to a full machine shop since his dad owns a reverse engineering business.

I am considering manufacturing 10 sets as a one off before these get fitted, to offer at a reasonable price to ek9.org forum members.

Since £180-220 rrp is crazy, I was thinking £90 delivered to cover machining time, and the material cost which is relatively high due to a lot of waste in the machining process.

I also intend to donate a portion of the profits to ek9.org :nice:

Before I order the material I would ideally like 4-5 sets provisionally sold. They will be for EK9/EK4/EJ6/8/9.

Anyone interested please post up!

(Mods please don't delete, I have pm'd rvm regarding this)

Thanks mate, just don't want to step on any toes! If there is any issues with this let me know, still waiting to hear back from rvm :)

i would be game. Obviously i would want to see your finished article before purchasing.

That's a given :nice: Just want to gauge interest before investing in the material! The more buyers the cheaper the cost too, so the cheaper the price to you guys!

sounds good enough to me :)

i would also be interested. are we sure that they can be fitted to base models civics (ej9)?

I will double check to be certain but I'm pretty sure where the subframe bolts to the chassis is exactly the same. Let me get back to you on this 100%!

This is how the Spoon product works

Basically, it helps prevent your subframe from moving, the shafts for the bolts that attach the subframe to the chassis are too wide for the bolts. These collars slide over the bolts and sit between the chassis and the subframe. Due to their alloy construction and shape they both guide the subframe when mounting the two together so that it sits where it is supposed to, the alloy construction also allows them to mould into the surface deficiencies on both the chassis and subframe for perfect fitment with an even contact patch. This prevents horizontal movement, which can cause a spring effect as the chassis and subframe become misaligned and move under load, for example when under braking, or whenever forces travel through the suspension such as road bumps/holes.

Ok, once these are installed, they can not be removed, correct? If this is correct, why not just weld the bolts in place instead of adding this? Both are permanent.

These can be removed, they provide similar benefits to welding the chassis and subframe together due to the way they mould into the gaps between chassis and subframe. However, unlike welding these allow you to separate your chassis and subframe, the collars merely mould into the surface deficiencies to provide an even contact patch.

This being said, it is not advised for these to be used, then removed and re-used. This is due to the fact that they will already have taken form. If reused, although they will still 'spread' and 'fill' the gaps, it is not reccomended as due to the fine tolerances, the alloy may have already exceeded it's elastic limit, and subsequently crack under tightening. Therefore I do no reccomened re-use!

thanks for video seems a great mod i would be very interested just needs to be exactly perfect contsruction?

keep me informed many thanks kay

They will be extremely high quality, but obviously to demonstrate this I will post up a full write up with photographs, dimensions and comparison to the Spoon product :nice:

look into it and let us know! It sounds promising. Just to remind you that i am located in Greece

Quite interested, anyone actually have an opinion on having a set installed though? Differences?

What would be awesome is if you had them made by the start of April so i can have them fitted for the Nurburgring at easter ;) lol
