My civic rev's at 1500 when on a hill, even if its pointing up or down hill is this normal for a petrol engine?? Is it because the engine isn't sitting level and there's more air getting in some how, causing it to burn the petrol at a higher temp. resulting in a higher idle?? If someone could help it would be great or should I even be worried, thanks Joe.

Idk the reason but old cars tend to do that..same thing happen with gas needle on hondas whever the car is tilt left or right sometimes you see more gas sometimes you see less...

Sorry I was a bit vague With the year of the car. It's a 2000 3 door Honda civic. So would this apply to that method apply to this car??

Mine also does that. It's really down to the engine being cold/just being started; I assume you find that revs drop back down once it's heated up slightly?

Yeah it does only when I start the car, but if I was to start the car on a level ground I still get the same amount of rev's 1500.

That's just cold idle mate
You won't find a civic that doesn't do it

Thanks, I was kinda hoping It's was going to be something like that and not something like a gasket been broken and allowing more air in.
