i failed mot on saturday just for the handbrake. it passed the efficiency test but failed because one side was weaker than the other, i noticed when i was changing the handbrake cables that the handbrake lever on one caliper didnt move as far as the other one. and this meant that the adjustor behind the actual handbrake was sitting at an angle.
so do you think i need a new caliper or if i take it apart should it free up?
any help appreciated. cheers, Jack

not uncommon for honda rear callipers to stick and catch. probably needs taken down and given a bloody good clean. or if all else fails a refurb kit! you getting the civic out on the road or just selling it on now?

yeah ill give that a go at the weekend, get it stripped down and cleaned up and see what happens.
i think ill get it out on the road and drive it for a few months now when i went to the bother of testing it, i was happy enough it needed nothing for mot apart from a set of wiper blades and this handbrake issue. so hopefully should have it out soon if i get the dc2 shifted.

i stripped the caliper down and everything seems dead on. the piston is clean no rust or anything and its winding back no bother. and the handbrake lever is moving alot more now that the caliper is off the car and seems to be doing its job so i dont think its the handbrake mechanism.
any more ideas what could be wrong?

the cables get contaminated with crap over time and start to drag!

brand new cables on it 2 weeks ago. the only thing I can think is the calipers were wound back different amounts so ill try and balance it up that way tomorrow.
