Rattling noise

Hi guys,

My EK9 is making one hell of a racket from what seems like behind the dashboard on the passenger side.

Daz who I got it off thought it was the torque mounts so he tightened them as much as possible however it's actually made the noise worse and he doesn't think it's that that could be causing the problem.

It's constant, a really loud metaly rattling noise and is especially loud when coming off the accelarator at speed, say 60/70mph.

Any ideas what it could be or am I best getting the dash etc taken out to see what the problem could be?

I do have no interior or sound deadening in the car but I don't that is causing the problem.

would be worth checking around the engine bay to see if anything is loose? there isnt much metal in behind the dash as its mainly plastic parts. only real metal is the dash frame. Would there be anything loose in below the wiper scuttle panel?

Is the ecu secure? Endless never fit my mates ecu back in place in his dc2. Also what mounts do u have?

I don't know what it is you know chaps, it's very tinny in sound it sounds awful as soon as it's moving and it's relentless, never stops not even for a moment. :/

I think I'll have to get my mechanic to take all the dash off and see what's loose and see if he can find out what the problem is. I've checked in the engine bay and there's nothing loose there, everything seems secure so I can rule that out.

The ECU is secure so I know it's not that, it sounds as though the whole passenger side metal sort of at the back of the dash/below the windscreen is loose or something's damaged and rattling around, it's really hard to explain without going in it.

I don't know what mounts they are either, he said they basically have two rubber bits coming out from the metal and he's tightened it up but it sounds even worse than before. I haven't got a ******* clue tbh what he's talking about. I wouldn't know what the mounts are if I tripped over them.

It has been a CAT C repaired years ago but I can't see that being the problem as it's been repaired and has had two previous owners since who both had the car a while.

Strange one really but thanks for your help all the same.

Thanks for your reply mate.

Hmmmm, perhaps it's something loose around the wiper scuttle like you said?

It's definitely more metal in sound than plastic. Something I have noticed is that when I first got the car I put the heater on and something came loose and disappeared down the back so it could be that however I recall it was making this horrendous noise as soon as I drove it.

Pop the glove box out, cigarette/ash tray surround, sterio/heater surround, drivers lower dash trim. Dash side / end pannels.
I can strip all this out in about 5 mins.
You will now have access to loads on test drive.

Thanks Duncan, will try and get that stuff out over the weekend and see if I can spot anything that's loose or out of place whilst driving it.

Is it hard work putting all the stuff back together?

Thank you. :nice:
