Hey guys in need of some help and couldnt find any mention of it on the site.

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove a b16b sump without removing the exhaust manifold?

It looks possible but not convinced would love to hear from someone with experience in this!

hummm, I think it needs to be removed due to the oil pick up.

so both the exhaust mani and lower gearbox mount have to come off?

Thats a fun morning for me 2morow then!

Really thought id be able to get at all the bolts and then slide it out the side!

Cheers guys!

That's true, both the manifold or just the downpipe if its a 2 piece and the flywheel cover have to come off. Fairly simple job.

When tightening the sump bolts be very carefull and get the proper torque settings if you can as they don't need alot of force to tighten or you will easily split the sump gasket!

What sump are you fitting??

my mani is a standard ek9 mani so im unsure if its 2 piece,

fitting a replacment b16b sump as i wasnt sure if any of the other sumps fit, i know that b16a sumps dnt fit because of the ek9 crank girdle

But unsure if any of the b18 sumps fit, so best to stick with what i know will fit

unless any1 knows if one of the more readily available sumps such as the b18c4 or 5 would fit?

Yes your manifold it 2 piece so you can simply unbolt the bottom section of the manifold!

I don't understand why you are fitting the same sump that is on the car, is the current one damaged?

B16b and B18c sumps are exactly the same, I know that if it helps

yep damaged it 2day on part of a bollard that the council felt the need to leave sticking out of the ground! F*ckers!

Cheers for the help guys!

You should make them pay for the new one! Also you can get split sumps - I think these are better for track use as it doesn't "starve" one side of oil when hard cornering. Don't know much about them but a mate of mine was telling me about them!

i am in the process of making them pay for it but they are arguing that the land on which the bollard block was on belongs to british waterways or some ****!

I will get some bastard to pay for it though, ive got pictures of the bollard base protruding from the ground!

Almost **** a brick when i got out and noticed the puddle, luckely i got out as soon as i felt it and turned the engine off or it would have been much worse!

While your under there why not install an oil temp sensor? That is if you do not already have one.

good point, but my cars not been tracked so i dont really need one, plus i dont like aftermarket gauges tbh. Ecspecially unnecessary ones

But i wouldnt take a car on track without an oil temp and pressure guage

Cold be worth putting baffle plates in it as you may want it for the future?

Good luck in claiming from the council aswell.

All changed over now! just had to loosen the downpipe in the end and remove the inspection plate, New gasket and all torqued up.

Bloody council!!!
