Police trouble :(

I got pulled over by a police officer and I was told my exhaust was defective. The police officer heard me put my foot down for about 3/4 seconds but didnt see me. Anyway, he asked why my exhaust was so loud and asked if it's got a hole in it. I panicked abit as I didnt want to say its a straight through system as I thought I would have to get it changed so I told the officer that theres a possibility it could have a hole in it and that I intended to get it checked out. I told him that I had bought the car like that. This was a day after I had got insured. Its been a few weeks since the incident and i've just got a court summons through the post. It says ''...which was fitted with an exhaust sytem which allowed exhaust gases from the engine to escape into the atmosphere without first passing through the silencer. Contrary to regulations 54(1) of the road vehichle...) The system I have is a straight through spoon n1 with a decat fitted. What do I do? :confused:
 
Own up mateits harder to lie than it is to tell the truth plus they have people lieing to them everyday so they know all the trick questions i been to court before for speeding and being stood up there in front of them you cant think of any excuses be a man mate thats all i can say ;)
 
did the court summon mention anything about the vehicule going under any kind of inspection? if not, id recommend just buying a tail silencer like Spoon sells for their N1. It should notch down your exhaust from whaling too much. btw some countries consider tail silencers illegal, as in my case it's illegal here in Canada. If your caught with one you can get a 200$ fine and a 24hrs notice to get it fixed.
 
I know man, just seems abit **** that I'm getting done for my exhaust being 'defective' when it isn't :( Would I have to change my exhaust? :/

Nope no inspection was made. Ye I guess I could just get a silencer.

I would'nt go so far as to say completly changing it. But consider some options like the tail silencer i mentioned or getting some kind of comb-mesh catalyser.
For what it's worth, theres no point it getting rid of your exhaust line imo.
 
what year is the car ? in northern ireland anyway anycar older than 1998 doesnt need to have a cat fitted just a silencer of some sort ... a back box etc
 
Bull! There is 2 baffles in a spoon N1 system fit a cat and take pics of it as proof!

No evidence was taken at the time only he thought it was loud. And you thought it had a hole in! Upon inspection there was nothing wrong! Smples! I wouldn't take this lying down to much! Get some evidence!

Thats fair enough but where is the proof? Its on his opinion it was too loud!

So was a roadside pollution and noise test carried out? If not i doubt it will stand up! Take you decat out and fit a cat take photos with exhaust system and cat in place get and MOT station to carry out an emmisions test and then go to court and plead your innocence! With that much evidence they won't be able to argue. Cause what proof have they got? A police officers opinion? :thanks:
 
However...

I do recall getting done for a Race exhaust on my R6 which had Not For Road Use stamped on it. The took pics so i couldn't argue it i pleaded guilty by post and if i recall the total fine inc court fees was £150 probably gone up now as that was few years ago.

We are all part of one society or another, being honest is governed by ourselves. If you know you broke, or are breaking, the law, and got caught, you should be an adult about it and pay the price for that.

Being a wimp about it will only make a person bitter in the long run. Old bitter man...

This is all they can do him for what i am saying is the Spoon System has 2 silencers. One for the N1 and one in the B pipe! The reason i am saying fit a cat is so not to draw attention to a shiny decat! What he is being done for is no silencers! You can clearly see it pass throu 2 silencer on a spoon exhaust system it is not a straight through exhaust system.

Make sense? Yes he was breaking the law for not having a cat but that is not what he is being prosecuted for!

Bollocks to tama666. I defo agree with ijwhiteman. For something so petty if there is a round about way or soloution then do that to get off with it.
 
Think thats bad am getting took to court for an mfi asbo whenn ave never been pulled for speeding or doing anything daft dnt see the point but i go down there a few nights n now cause a community police officer said i follwed a car to close round the round about i may get a ban :S i cant stand the police when it coomes to cars :( x
