My outer CV Boot (driver's side) has split for the fourth time in just a couple of months and yet again the grease has gone everywhere...This seems to have happened since the car has been lowered on coilovers, and I'm getting fed-up of getting the boot changed! Is this anything to do with stress from lowering/camber? Any suggestions much appreciated. Cheers!

Something must be catching off it. Get the car up on a ramp and see what could be catching it. If something looks very close there's a good chance when going over bumps it could be meeting with it.

Could be-
-The above (but I doubt it)
-Low quality boots used or even split-type boots:nerv:
-Low quality grease or even grease not meant for a CV joint
-Too much grease in the joint, it should NOT be packed it there it should just be a heavy coat on the joint
-The boot closed up under vacuum or compression.

If you were to change it yourself, you could use the materials you want and install it so you know it's correct.

Which way did it seperate? Length ways or between the flexes?

If its a spurious stretch boot , its easy to nick the end while stretching and over a period of time opens up.

reply may be too late but, lowering car will screw up the working angle of your axles, thus ripping your boots, just like using a ekk1 kit for k20 swap.

problem seems to be solved, the aftermarket boots I was using just weren't up to the job and kept splitting, so after fitting a genuine honda boot, it has stayed split free :nice:

mine splits also but not very often i was advised by my mate its to do with oversize wheel for example if the cars originaly on 15 then change to 16s ior 17 etc it will cause it to wear slightly quicker.

3 of the CV joint boots on my Civic last more than 13 years. I replaced it due to some crack on the boot (not leaking yet). I am pretty sure the 3 boots is original, because the metal tie was welded together.

My car was lowered to about 1 finger gap for at least 4 years.
