as above, what would peoples opinions on changing from a p/s rack to a manual rack for a track/daily road/''streetracing'' car.? what are the pros and cons of it and all. and what civic could I get a manual rack out of?

Manual rack as far as I am aware is slower so you will have to turn the steering wheel more in order to make the car turn. It will feel better at high speeds but will be crap for parking and slow corners (hairpins etc...). Also, in case you overcook it and your rear end steps out it may make it harder to catch, because it will be harder to turn the steering wheel and will take more time. Try to figure out how to plumb in a progressive electric ps, I would be very interested in that! :)

progressive electric ps, sounds very technical and fancy ill deffo look into it anyway. cheers for the feedback man :)

That's what many new cars come with. I already looked into it, I reckon it is doable but not within my current capabilities lol. Combines the best of both worlds, you get all the power assistance you want at low speed and the ps pump works less and less as the speed goes up until it eventually stops altogether. And when you slow down it kicks in again.

EHPAS isn't really that complicated.

You replace the mechanical pump with an electronic pump. MR2s and Saxo's are the usual donors. The pump is small and can be mounted in a number of places, it doesn't have to be in line with the crank.

You need to mate up the hydraulic fittings, and wire the thing in so that the motor pumps when it is needed. You can wire it into a dash mounted dial for adjustable boost.

Or you fit a manual rack and an electric column off a corsa or an a class, but thats a fair amount of work, and a waste of time as the standard pas works so well!
