onto engine number 3..........

the header looks mint, your not scared of taking on a bit of work when it comes to rebuilding the gearboxes.

holiday monday and it wasn't raining for a change

unfortunately the RRC TB gasket is on back order with honda, so i just used honda bond to seal the adapter to the manifold

all fitted up looks pretty swift

the HR TB is nice, 70mm butterfly and tapers out to 76mm at the intake

with all the posts i see about sticky K series IACV i chose to clean it out PROPER. cut the bolts to allow access with a flat blade (bolts are some daft star shape)

cleaned the insides out good and proper so the shaft spins effortlessly, they use a weird magnetic shaft compared to the B series plunger

the water pump / breather chamber need removed for proper access to fit up the new manifold so good chance to give it all a clean, water pump is in good shape so no need to replace, fitted a new thermostat though

now when i went to fit the HR fuel line i was SHOCKED to see this, swarf on the banjo fixing, blocking the feed. dismanted the fitting and removed it all, but this shouldn't need done considering the price of these :nono:

karcepts intake fitted, it's a fair beast!

sump off and the buddy club baffle kit slotted in. the oil etc all looked nice and clean which is good news

clearance is tight in about the front.......... but the HR radiator clears everything with the 11" pacet slim fan and quick mounts, didn't even need to flip the IACV, everything clears and the bonnet shuts!

few shots of the bay once i was done. still need to convert the rack to manual before i can fit the subframe etc. not too much work left then i can get fired into the wiring

Can't believe the progress you've made on this in such short time !
Inspired me to pull my finger out with my car tonight.

Very good progress!! With the adapter harness for the swap does that mean that its just plug and play or do you still have to do some hard wiring yourself?

What is the clearance like for the sump with those mounts?

Steven why did you use the adaptor plate I was told the hr tb is a straight fit with the rrc?

cheers! hoping to have it going this weekend

the wiring adapter is fairly plug and play, only a couple wires to solder. need to do some reading up on the engine charge harness though, might have to make up a couple new cables from my battery

sump clearance is as good as possible for the ek chassis, if the engine sat any higher i wouldn't be able to close the bonnet! K24 sump is 11mm shallower, although if you run the k24 steel sump the oil pickup sits daft close to the sump, big restriction. will wait and see once i can get the car back down onto its wheels

Steven why did you use the adaptor plate I was told the hr tb is a straight fit with the rrc?

the hybrid racing TB has 2 mounting options, PRB and RBC. an adapter plate is required for the RRC if you want to run the IACV since the opening of the manifold is alot different to the RBC, think idle control on the FD2 is controlled by the throttle since it is fly by wire operated

Fantastic progress, I've never seen a buddyclub sump baffle before nice trick part.

I saw a thread on K20.org a long time ago, a guy had swapped his for the K24 steely and the pictures showed it to be shallower, and as you say 11mm. I emailed clubrsx who sell both and they say it is the same size, others I have asked have said the same. Its one option I was looking at, have you seen both together Steven?
Can the oil pickup position issue be sorted if it is indeed a shallower unit?

there was quite a good write up i found online, someone had a spare K24 sump which they cut in half and fitted up, so it showed the exact clearance to the oil pickup, it was tiny due to the sump being shallower

unsure what could be done about the oil pickup though, the clearance is THAT tight that if you dinked a K24 sump you would starve the engine of oil

cracked on with a few more jobs tonight

the mount for the FPR i really wanted to mount on the shock tower, so i drilled an extra hole so i could use one of the threaded holes already there

and mounted up

subframe ready to go in, left the brace off for now until i get the rack finished

needed to fit up the exhaust manifold so i can check how much the B pipe needs shortened by. impressed with the fit of the manifold, great clearance about the subframe so will still be able to run the brace - you can also see i will be running the shifter cables and all wiring through the heater matrix hole, will keep everything neat and tidy in the bay (still need to run some rubber edging round the hole for protection)

and great clearance underneath too

Just awesome. Will this ever stop getting better?

As much as its a shame to have lost the epic B, You must be chuffed to have a K In there! :D

fastest k swap ever?!? awesome work man cant wait to see vids of it around knockhill! :D

Great work mate! Gives the rest of us something to work towards!

Cheers guys :)

Been pretty happy with progress, engine oil and some other bits and pieces came today, exhaust is getting shortened tomorrow, so no excuses to get it going this weekend :D
