Have heard about the land rover mtf being basically the same as honda mtf.
Honda mtf is the best for your gearbox and should always be used unless you have an aftermarket lsd or something along those lines.

People swear by the MTF3. My dad has a gearbox shop and was going to put in general box oil. But i got MTF3 for around £8 or something for a 1L bottle. So cost me £24 so for that price i wasnt complaining or looking for anything else.

I put the Landy stuff in mine for a while after i changed the FD but the box didnt seem to like it, Made it sound all whiny and weird. So swapped that out for some torco MTF stuff and its been perfect since. THe landy stuff just seems very watery compared to the others.

ok cool so honda mtf the best, what rating is it, 75w 80 or something like that?

Honda MTF I hear has changed its formulation to work better with the K series transmissions. In turn, does not work as well in the old B series transmissions any longer...wtf? Anywho--I use AMSOil in my street car and its very nice.

useful info thanks, if I didnt need it this week id order some but bet its expensive to ship to the uk lol

can also get it from opie

its good stuff, makes the box a bit notchy from cold but once warmed up its very smooth

We found that on the track our b16 civics started to have problems when driven hard for 10 laps+ with high rpm shifting using Honda MTF

We now use 10w40 semi engine oil in the gearbox and drop it out after every trackday and it works perfectly every time!

I've read this from others as well. :nice:

The engine oil doesn't go as thin as the mtf with heat and seems to deal well with the high temperatures on the circuit

It's also fine from cold on the road :nice: it won't last as long as mtf before it shears so needs to be changed very regularly, which is good for flushing debris from the box

I prefer to try things myself and learn from personal experience as everyone tends to have their own idea from sitting on the Internet reading forums. It's good to hear from people with first hand experience with these topics
