Right this is going to be wierd to explain but for all those with an s4c gearbox mite be able to help me.

So basicly i took the gear box off the car, when i came to undo the gear linkages the one with the bolt that goes into the gear box. well when i took the bolt out it emptied the oil. it never leaked or anything, and last time i emptied the box before taking this bolt out.

Is this somthing normal or is there a seal or is the gearbox fooked?

Really hope it's not a problem i shall be taking the gear box apart anyway to fit a final drive. but i cant find a seal or anything that goes behind that bolt from the inside on honda original parts.

If anyone can help would be much apreciated.

Cheers

Never seen that before possibly the bolt was to long? Ptfe tape the bolt when you put it back in to seal it or get it welded mabby?

sounds like the wrong bolt was used and has put a hole in the cast of the gearbox as it was tightened up. when you split the box you will see straight away whats happened.

yeah i was thinking this. but will it be a problem if i put ptfe or liquid gasket on the bolt ? doesnt mean the case is shagged does it ?

was its definly gear oil that came out?..might be just oil off the treads of the bolt?..it be very strange for someone to put a longer bolt into that hole cause thers a special coller on the bolt as far as i can remember..have a look at the box for damage when u take the box apart see if the hole is goin through the casing u no then for definite..:ek9:

oh i;ve looked down the hole defantly going into the casing. and seen as 2.5 liters come out im pretty sure its gearbox oil LOL.

and the bolt looks like its pretty standard to be honest unless there is a washer i missed out or previous owner missed out ?

Will try but not easy with a gopro its the onkly thing ive got that takes pictures atm

there should be two large washers either side of the rubber. Thats the only thing i can think of, the both has been overtightened with the inside one missing.

yea!..probly someone put in the wrong bolt in to it at some stage so!..the oil could have came out of the diff? if the drives were taken out, cause the bolt for linkage is wright under the passanger drive shaft oil could droped down from ther..

nar mate had my head under the car could see the oil spewing out from the bolt hole it litrally emptied the box and i can see through the bolt hole looks like theres a cap missing inside.

Will have to see when i strip the box i supose.

Thats really weird, ill be interested to see whats happened. Should only drain when you remove the drain plug or drive shafts.
