I noticed a lot of people on here are from different countries and though we all speak English on this forum, we use different words to describe the same parts, so I'm making this thread to clear things up, i ask anybody to feel free to contribute:
Words that mean the same thing:
Back box = muffler
Bonnet=hood
Boot=trunk
B-Pipe= Section of exhaust piping between the header and axle back.
Bulkhead= Firewall
Cam belt= Timing belt
Cat=catalyst=catalytic converter
Coil over= Adjustable absorber
CV Joint=drive shafts= axles
Decat=test pipe
Door Card= Door panel
E-brake = Parking brake or Handbrake
Four branch manfold= Header or Exhaust manifold
Gearbox= Transmission
Gear knob= Shift knob
Induction kit= Intake kit
Inlet manifold = Intake manifold
Mitsubishi = unreliable
Mobile=cellphone
Motor= Engine
Petrol= Gasoline or Fuel
Rocker cover=cam cover or valve cover
Rotor = Disc
Side Marker Lights- Indicator Lights
splitters=extensions
Sump=oil pan
Sway Bar = Anti-Roll Bar
Windscreen = windshield
Abbreviations:
ABS= Anti-lock Brake System
CDM= Canadian Domestic Market
CEL= Check Engine Light
CTR= Civic Type R
EDM= European Domestic Market
EMS= Engine Management System
ECU= Engine Control Unit
ITR= Integera Type R
JDM= Japanese Domestic Market
LCA= Lower Control Arm
LSD = Limited Slip Differential
NA or N/A=Naturally Aspirated
