Hi all

Just got my OEM JDM 98 Spec 4-1 and went to fit it last night. I'm afraid I have bad news - they don't just bolt on. There is an issue with the mounting bracket on the collect side of the manifold. Both the bracket and the manifold have studs in them. From what I can tell I need to get a bracket off a 98 Spec ITR in order for it to fit correctly. For now, myself, an angle grinder, a dril and some deep thought have a date to try and rig something temporarily until I can get my hands on a bracket. Has anyone else had any experience with this?

MARK

Is this the bracket at the back underneath the back engine mount? I know a few people dont even bother connecting them there because they snap from engine movement....

Yep! Thats the one. Made a few calls to people I know with these headers on EG6's and EK9's and they all said you don't need it and they're not using it....so problem solved....not using it.

Cheers for the reply :)

further insurance is using energy suspension motor mount inserts.

This prevents the motor from rocking back and forth and potentially weakening and could lead to breakage (think bending a paper clip back and forth) of the header collector.

I removed that bracket entirely when I installed my prothane rear insert.

Mark how those the car feel power wise after fitting the ITR manifold?

To be 100% honest - its an animal! I don't know if you heard or not but my car was broken into and stripped. My Mugen 4-1 header was one of the things that was taken so I couldn't really afford to replace it so I went with the OEM JDM 98 Spec 4-1 as the budget alternative. There is actually a noticeable difference between the two. The OEM JDM 98 Spec 4-1 feels smoother for some reason and she really pulls hard in the vtec. The lads were saying its all in my head but I think it has made a difference. If you are changing from an OEM EK9 header to the OEM JDM 98 Spec 4-1 you will notice that she'll be a little sluggish down low but it really makes up for it in the vtec.

Sound advice man. Gonna order myself a top mountable torque dampner instead of the inserts. Hopefully that will see it goood.

Sounds good! Yeah I remember you posting up about stuff gettin nicked. Suppose the cops never got anyone for it? Was reading on MNC nothing but cars getting nicked and stripped for parts lately especially down in cork

No nothing back. Dont expect it either. Its going around alright at the moment. I just hope lightning doesnt strike twice in the same place. Have a very expensive alarm and several immobilisers and looking into a tracker aswell. It will never happen again.
