Hi all, I thought I'd join here since Im trying to soak up some Honda knowledge.

Ill admit, Ive never been a Honda person but I recently was offered a 2000 Civic VTI coupe that's been sat in a yard for 2 years. The owner lost the key and bodywork wise its tatty as hell (every panel dented) but it was physically sound and low mileage until someone vandalised it, breaking the drivers window and smashing the windscreen, adding a few more dents to the bodywork in the process.

So Im just trying to gain some info on these cars and whether to go ahead with the deal and re-negotiate a new price or jack it in and tell him to send it for scrap???

That's me....

Welcome a load of info on here for all your questions

It really all depends on the price of the car and how much you want to spend on getting it back to a decent standard if thats what you are looking for

Thanks for the welcome. Itll never be a minter but would make an ideal track car. Something to practice bodywork repairs on etc.

I did negotiate £300 delivered for it as it was if he could find the key but that was before someone smashed the windscreen. Somehow I don't think he will find the key though so Ill have to source a lock set or order one from Honda which my dealer said was £102.

Welcome along.
If it's just a track beater you can wire in a battery kill switch and toggle switch for the ignition/starter/fuel pump etc
Because racecar right?

The problem you will have is the immobiliser, there is a chip in the key that de activities it,

How ever there is online guides on how to remove it from the ecu, or you can get a ecu from a import which won't have the immobiliser and will give slightly more power.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

If you did pay £300 for it then you should easily get your money back if you gave up and decided to break it for spares (assuming it is a vti b16a2)

Now that's a good idea. I'd have to get by the steering lock though. (snap it off!!!!)

I got a quote from my local dealer who said it'd be £102 for a new key coded to the car. I was wondering if I could find a new lock set, key and ecu cheaper than that though and just swap the lot in but if there's a way to get by the ECU then a new set of locks and keys would be ideal.

It is a B16A2 engine, I checked that. £300 was the agreed price with the key found and all windows intact but that's gone to pot since it now needs a new windscreen and drivers window. I'm going to see the chap on Monday and re-negotiate a new price to see how cheap I can get it. The problem I have is without a key I cant hear the thing running or move it very easily since the steering lock is on. Ill have to work something out to get it away from the yard its in and away from possibilities of further damage as soon as possible.

Thanks for the welcome all.

Hi man!

The B16A2's seem to sell for about £450 - 500 from what ive seen, and what my friend paid. Could be worth it to strip for bits, or even take the engine out and put into a different shell! :)

Josh.
