Currently I have a ej6 with a d16y7 engine in it. Unfortunetly my car is an automatic which I plan to change when I decide when to do a swap and what to swap it for. A few of my friends tell me that I should get a k20 engine over a b18 and b16. Why? What are the pros and cons to these different types? Ive asked people before and most said k20 is the way to go. Can I also add a turbo kit to these?

dont mean to sound harsh, but its not a EK9 if its got a D series and auto....

in general K20 is better but B series is easier and cheaper to do on a EK shell, K series engines swaps are sooo covered on the internet, there loads of info out there...

and you can turbo anything....

+ K20 is easier to tune
+ JDM K20 has more power out of the box
+ K20 has a 6spd gearbox
+ The engine itself aint that expensive

- Not al K20's have LSD's in the gearbox, all B18C's and B16B does
- K20 swaps costs more, even though parts for the swap seem to be getting much cheaper!
- Quite a lot more work to swap than a B16/B18

I think to rival the speed of a K20 Civic you'd have to put more money into a B18 than into a K20 swap. I think that if you're handy, you can do it for 4,5k and for that money you already have an after market header, aftermarket exhaust and aftermarket ECU.

A K20 is also more refined, B16/B18 is raw. That's a matter of taste what you like.

I have one too, and im thinks to soon put a K20 with auto stick its gonna be easy to put with that trans??

Also keep in mind that you'll need a engine management solution like K-pro.

:D

The price of a K20A engine is around 5500 $ like 1500 $ more than a B18C.

my friend who owns a shop told me he can get me the k20 with the clutch stuff for $3500.

ya but it pry wont be the JDM k20... and for 3500? i would be askin myself what is potentially wrong with this motor....? but ive looked into a k20 myself for my em1/ek9... and they are costly especially for aftermarket parts... my friends have told me that it would be a money pit and truely it is... ive read on forums that the k series motors especially the k20 really arent build off the manufacturer lines for boost. as far as a b16 or b18 goes they might not have as much power but i guarantee ull be spending a lot less on parts for those and gettin more benefits than that of a k20. thats just my .02

In U.S. Dollars whats the cost of the whole swap for b16, b18, and k20? I also thought that the k20 seemed to be low, ill ask him about info when I go to his shop again.

I think you should take into account that costs for the K20 swap, besides the engine, will be 1500-2000, for a B-swap, say 300 plus the complete conversion package.

yes, i live in Mexicali,Mexico border of CA USA and the prices are lower than $2000 for a K20 i guees im not sure but for B16 i've seen just for 700 and 900
