New Summer Tyres (not semi slicks)

Hi guys,

I'm on the hunt for some replacement tyres for my EK0, so was after suggestions. From the threads I have already read and based on my own criteria, heres where I'm at:

1) Car is stock, standard suspension / brakes / bushes / mounts
2) Want a summer road tyre not slicks / semi slick
3) Preferably want to stick to 195/55/15 but know that people feel the 195/50/15 is more responsive
4) Was interested in a tyre which isnt too "heavy" but also doesnt flex under hard cornering (this may be why 195/50/15 could be a better option for me?)
5) Car is driven on the road only to keep it ticking over nicely. But mainly is to be used for track days, 2 or 3 a year I would say
6) Car isn't often (possible never) driven in the wet, so am more focused on dry grip

A lot of the old threads may be no longer applicable now, what stuff today would you recommend?

Cheers,
Rush

195/50/15 on standard suspension looks pants imho, the wheels will be lost in the arches... I've bought bridgestone adrenalin re002, haven't tried them yet but they do get great reviews, look pretty cool and are not too expensive!

RE002 as @oifovo has said. I will be buying these to use on my road wheels as the reviews seem very good and are very cheap!

These tyres are currently on my watch list, I noticed Bridgestone also do a S001 tyre, little cheaper than the RE002. Not quite sure on the difference.

Glad you mentioned about the profile size, I dont really have plans to lower the EK so sounds like the 55's will be better.

I know you didn't want semi slicks but I'm assuming this is because of the price?
I've noticed the nankgank semi slicks (ns2r) are around £65 a corner and should be a rival to the ad08. They have 8mm tread and come in two compounds so you could choose the harder one if its wear your worried about.
I keep meaning to get a set for my daily wheels to try them out but it hasn't happened yet...
I see your mostly trackdays in the limited use the car gets so I'd be inclined to get a more track focused tyre.

Its personal preference really not so much price. I don't think I'm skilled enough as a driver to justify the jump to semi slicks just yet.

I also aim to keep the car relatively standard in terms of spec. From past experience I know if you increase performance in one area other parts also need to be beefed up too.

Yeah that's fair enough. Parts may need changing if you can match the performance of the tyre as you said.

Cheers appreciate the feedback. Think based on what I know I will go for the RE02's in 195/55/15. My SW388 are 15x6.5 so should be a perfect fit.

Guy sticking to the topic somewhat (rather than starting a entire new thread). My rim width is jumping up from 15x5.5 to 15x6.5.

I planned to continue running the same width tyre (195mm). What I wanted to know was, would people doing this move up in tyre with as they are moving up in rim width?

Reading up, Im inclined to say no as I hear 195mm is ideal for a 6.5 inch rim. But then it makes me wonder if 195mm is too "wide" for a 5.5 inch rim (which I am currently running). It certainly doesnt look to small.

Was wondering if I should opt for 205mm basically!

If you go 205 then stay 205 50 not 55

I'd stay 195 if it was me.

So would I really. A 205 50 looks very similar in size (sidewall) to a 195 55.

Both sizes are Alright if you want to do a bit of off roading ;)

My buddy had 205s on 6.5j, granted they where a048s so probably more like 215 but they looked huge and bulged out either side of the rim massively.

Personally I much prefer the higher sidewall of 195/55 or 205/50 but it really is personal preference. My track tyres are 195/50 for slightly better steering response and mainly lower price lol. 195 is perfect for 6.5j it's what I will be using on the rear with 205s on 7j rims in the front

Cool guys, you have all been real helpful with all my questions of late. Reason I was looking at 205mm was increased context with the road (albeit only slightly more). Sounds like its not really worth it though.

Hoping 195/50/15 look okay with my Spoon's and standard suspension. Worst case, use them then change up to 195/55/15 next time.

Over and out for now!
