my engine needs to be timed

I currently have a 87 Ef hatch, and one thing he had told me was that it needed to be timed. I don't want to take it to a mechanic not because I have no money on me most of the time but because I want to learn so that in the future if that ever happens I'll do it right away.I'm grateful for all the help you guys can give me.. ​

Not get a tool for setting timing, along with diagram, timing light or something?

i do have the tool to time the car 689R. i just dont know where to get the diagram.??
@olly ek9 i currently have a 215 single cam..yeah i know its a crappy engine but i need my car to run for now...i want to get a dual cam v-tec soon..but for now i just want to get my car running to go to school and home.
