I was out driving my eg9 on friday night and went and collected a friend! Everything was fine and reversed out his driveway then when I got into town three miles away I went to turn round but my car would not go into reverse!!!! I jacked it up and the linkages look fine so its not them! Its just like there is a wall in front of reverse!!! Anyone any ideas or help would be apprecieated as I cant really afford an expensive re-build or new box!!! Thanks...

my sir does this sometimes try lettin up the clutch really slowly so it doesnt grind the gear wile tryin to push it into reverse...its like the gear itself doesnt line up

I understand what your saying and my car done this but it will not go into reverse no matter what car on off clutch up or down it just wont go!! Oh and every other gear is fine!!!

thats stange...mine goes into reverse wen the clutch is half way up an i can jus let it up normal once its in but very rarely happens mine...is it doin it all the time now since it first happened or jus sometimes?

oh no, i hope you got it sorted, mine gives my trouble sometimes i have to go into 1st then 2nd then reverse and it works...

I understand what you are all saying and mine used to be the same that I would have to go through first to get reverse or let off the clutch and re-clutch but now it will not go in no matter what every time it just wont some one told me to take out the linkages and there is a selector to make sure its in place im going to try and if i have success i will post up for future reference! But any ideas apprecieated...

Does the gear 'grind' when you are trying to select it?

If so, I had the same problem when the MTF heats up. I replaced the MTF (using Honda OEM MTF) and all was/is well.

is there a solenoid that locks reverse on honda's? i only ask as i know of other cars(some fords,DC5'sEP3's) there's a solenoid fitted that won't allow reverse to be selected when moving,to prevent any nast mis shifts.and maybe if it's stuck(or broken) could be a possibility that's why you can't get reverse?

Sounds like you could of bent the reverse selector fork. or it could be the syncro for reverse is bad. The box will have to come out and get looked at. I had a car in with the same symptoms and when we took the box out he had done just that to it. Plus he had destroyed 1st,2nd, 4th and 5th. Guess he liked 3rd so left that one alone LOL.

I dont know anything about a solenoid but its looking like a selector fork or synchro is bent im sending it to a lad 2day so i wil no better then....

I wish he really would have said what was wrong with it like he promised... i am having this trouble and cant figure it out!

sorry to steal this thread dude but my car is also doing this!!!

recently had a new clutch & fly wheel fitted.

i've got no problem with selecting 1,2,3,4 & 5th

is this the dreaded synchro?

seriously lads any ideas, i thought it was better re-visiting this thread than starting a new one!

Jack the car up and take a look at the shift linkage as it moves when you select gears to see if it's all hunky dory. I suspect you will have to remove and open gearbox to inspect internal shift fork :(
