Mugen TwinLoop and Mugen B pipe Vs. OEM b-pipe & SPOON Street muffler (Zens Retune)

recently Zen on the forum (with new tegiwa manifold) came tto me for some service work, to fit a Spoon Street muffler, oem b-pipe and dyno-test/retune (which took 2 hours to perfect with these mods since his remap).

Once the Mugen TL muffler and b-pipe was replaced with a Spoon street and oem b-pipe, a baseline dyno test was performed after bringing the engine and gearbox upto temperature.

The Dashed line is Zen's previous final dyno test after tuning a couple of weeks ago.

Initially it was apparent this change had made the car lose some power across the board in itts currentt state of tune.

of course anything that affects airflow on an engine will affect the requirements for the fuel map and ignition map

After aproximately two hours re-tuning the fuel maps and reworking the ignition tables the car was tuned. Not quite making he same power the twinloop system could, but the final results were not far off! Very good considering tthe sttock b-pipe. the Spoon Street muffler certainly perform well without being excessively loud.

This is the Final runed graph of the Spoon Street and OEM b-pipe vs. the previous ttune with Mugen TL muffler and b-pipe

This is a graph showing the tuned vs. untuned with just tthe b-pipe and the muffler beign changed

And one more just for giggles. Zens' final tune with Spoon Street vs. 'Lee S' car which has the mugen TL and b-pipe system but with different intake.

Zen has the ITG intake and Lee has the Whale Tail.

Zen Has the Tegiwa manifold and Lee has a DC Sports manifold.

Specs are pretty similar apart from the above so its an interesting comparison with some useful conclusions.

Hope this has been informative!

sweet. whats your mods Zen?

Currently I have the Itg and cold air feed, Tegiwa 4-2-1, Resonated decat, Oem B-pipe and Spoon Street Muffler.

I've just got hold of a Spoon 4-2-1 and Spoon B-pipe at a pretty good price so along with my Spoon Street muffler I'll be expecting to free up even more power. Intention is to go B18 soon so may get the lot fit together.

Very interesting to know thanks for the post.
part of me is a bit puzzled though.
why would you have a restrictive backbox ( Mugen TL ) with a nice free flowing B pipe...
and then swap to a better flower Backbox and stick the standard more restrictive B pipe on.

glad to hear you've got round to sorting out a nice free flowing system now. bet it makes a nice power increase

I dont see how the spoon street would be better flowing back box than the mugen twin loop??

The mugen twin loop is essentialy a straight through design but with alot of sharp angles and loops in the pipe. Which in turn reduce the flow ability.
Where as the spoon street is a muffler type with internal mesh pipes and chambers.

Still i agree i dont understand the change to the standard b-pipe unless it was just for ease of fitment.

At the time, I never had the Spoon B-pipe or Manifold otherwise I would have had them all fit together.

Wanted to sell the full mugen catback complete as i thought it would be easier........and it was, sold it within the week.

Anyway, up until now I've just been playing around different systems for my own interest but think I'll settle on the full spoon straight through with street muffler as I don't like loud exhausts.

I have never really heard the spoon street is it much quieter than the mugen TL ???

Im in the same boat really, im after the best flowing quiet exhaust.

well my decatted TL with a decat is 86 db @ 6k..........

Those with decatted Twin loops, how do you find them ??? do you get any drone or nasty half throttle noises ??
