Been meaning to replace my ignition coil, cap and rotor arm for a while as Im starting to get the odd hesitation under load and intermitant overfueling.

Was pricing up a full set when I came across the MSD kits. Did a bit of research and most people seem to swear by standard systems for anything but high HP turbo builds. But in reality the cost of a new cap, rotor arm and internal coil is about the same if not more than the MSD external Coil kit which comes with new rotor and cap to suit.

Anyone had much experience with these. Most seem to say its over kill. But if its the same price then whats the harm. ??

I have one, was on the car when I bought it, as said its overkill for a fairly standard set up but it looks cool and if it's about the same price or cheaper than oem bits then there's no reason not to have one I guess, can't think of any negative points to mention

ran one on my EK9 after blowing about 3 genuine ignition coils with prolonged high rpm use (blew 2 at knockhill and 1 at the ring)

the standard coil is a weak spot of the distributor, upgrading to the MSD setup is FAR more cost effective than fitting a CoP setup which requires specific tuning whereas the MSD is plug and play

Just been looking these up as I was planning on renewing my dizzy cap and rotor. I presume the 99-00 ones listed will fit EK9's. My only concern is that in the description they say they've replaced them with USDM dizzy's and are uncertain if these will fit others outside of the US.

I'd guess the B series dizzys are all the same?

Who sales this kit ?? As I don't want my ignition coil letting me down in a race

Just what I was thinking. Both the EG6 and MB6 are starting to show signs of crapy coil. And I know my mate went through a good few on his DC2.

MSD kit it is then. :nice:

How much have you seen them for and were from

Yea all same ish sorts of kit.

Will cost near £100-130 ish for new standard coil, Cap and rotor.

Don't really see a reason why not to upgrade. The kits seem to be quite reliable.

On the honda-tech forum quite alot a folk dont like the msd coil or external coil kit But that was post from 2009-2010.. But if anyone has any experience with them on here, would like my mind changed on this really getting sick of oem coils!

As said above I have one and StevenEk9 had one and no problems to report,
Every time I look at Honda tech it's just people jumping on the bandwagon and slating stuff and giving wrong information

To be fair though would love to convert to coil pack they look really good on coils got that modern look with the coilpack but the old b series engine nice little combo :nice:
