hi my friend owns a b18c4 eg at the moment, we were at crail at the weekend when we discovered there was a problem, when on the line trying to hold the revs at say 5.5k it would bog down to like 3k and try and go back up but then missfire. if you deck the accel pedal it goes to like 8k and doesnt hit the limiter just bogs down and missfires, before any of you say it no it doesnt have anti lag or launch control. note this only happens when the car isnt moving either in gear or out, but as soon as you get moving and say dip the clutch or put it in netural it revs right to the limiter fine and bounces its ran on a standard p72 ecu also and we have tried the ecu and gave it a full service and there are no cel's any help would be great thanks

Thats really strange, what plugs are you running and what mods have been done to the car ?

ngk's mate. induction, decat and exhaust nothing major. any ideas people

check the timing for a start but it sounds like a distributor problem. revving it to 8000k when there's no load on the engine is a bit of a stupid idea!!!

nah i havent john could this cause the problem, im just a bt stumped that its fine when driving but when stopped it does this. well it needs to be done to see if the problem is still there mate.

Yeh it could be distributor related. I bet its to do with the electronic load detetor inside it. When i said plugs i ment what heat range ?

he has tried the right plugs (got them from me)
I cant remember the heat range but they are the correct ones

You got a timing light ?
You can pop down to mine and we could do it
just let me know so i can grab the gun

yeh that would be **** hot if we could pop down man, what times best for you?

If it was to do with ignition timing it would either be running really slow (retarded) or it would be knocking (advanced). Either way you would know about it by the drive in general.

i just checked it for codes. there was no light before but when i brigded it i got a code 20 eld ( electric load detector) what would this do if it was gone? and should it show a code all the time if that was the problem? cheers

Told you... You dont always have a cel if a sensor is bad, it all depends how it reading at a certain time. If i'm right you have 2 options, 1. Is to take the distributor apart and replace the sensor. 2. The easy option, just replace the distributor.

I know its a pain in the ass but thats honda distributors for you...

where is the eld located ? we tried another working dizzy and its still doing the same and also done the ign timing, noticed that the pvc valve isnt there and the vacum hose that comes from the inlet mani to it has been blocked with a srcrew, going to get a valve this week and connect it up. its been losing alot of opil out the back so this could be the cause but could it be the cause of the missfire?

:nono: Not saying you did nothing wrong, but you should look in to the distributor or the wiring it really sounds like that could be your missfiring issue. Chech all leads and connectors for power! :nice:

Is it still giving you the eld code ? That black box on the back of the block is most likely blocked off. Jack the car up and have a look. Also have you got some sort of engine breather systerm ? If your not sure what i mean post some pictures up of your engine bay and the engine its self (front, back and under neath)
