Matt's K20 CW EK9

Thanks :) more to come soon. 1st things on my list are getting it waxoyled and sorting out the oil burning!

So I have begun to prepare the car for winter.

I started at the weekend by cleaning and undersealing the rear arches. I'm getting it done professionally but this is a bit of protection until I get it booked in. Will be sealing behind the bumper and under the sills etc as well.

Pics of one of the arches -

Heavily caked in years worth of dirt & grime -

After a good scrubbing with a wire brush, some tough cleaner & the pressure washer, some paint was already flaked off and other marks were just stubborn stains that would not go -

And lastly, nicely undersealed and protected!

At the same time my wheels were off, I decided to paint my brake callipers as they were looking very tired -

Should hopefully have some bigger progress before year end! Silicon hoses, induction kit etc. also be looking into coilovers and other interesting things soon lol.

So I took the '9 into TDI North today!

Firstly went for a power run on the dyno -

Made 187.9bhp @ 8475rpm & 117.8lb/ft @ 8301rpm.

So chuffed with the figures being even higher than standard on a fairly standard motor!

I have a couple of videos of the runs I will post up very shortly!

In other news -

I had a compression/leakdown test performed -

All cylinders compressing at around the normal psi. Cylinder 2 & 3 have small score marks in them which is where my oil is going! So in for a rebuild with new piston rings & honed block whilst replacing majority of other things too except the pistons etc. early next year which will solve that problem.

We also discovered I require new drop links all round & ball joints on my ARB's. The major thing we found was that my front right shock absorber is now leaking fluid! So I am buying some BC Racing BR Series coilovers this week hopefully to be fitted next weekend!

We also confirmed that it used to be turbo'd or charged at some point in its 14 year life as there is an oil drain pipe into the sump which goes to nowhere, as well as various brackets which were used to mount FMIC.. Pretty strong evidence.

In for waxoyl/undersealing tomorrow! Some progress is now happening :)

Other than that, the car is perfect. Only wear & tear issues with it which can soon be solved! Still loving it!!!

Haha what's that supposed to mean? Guessing its a compliment lol!

Just read through from the start! Coming along nicely! Looks mega clean!

BC BR Series coilovers & new drop links on!

It's dropped about 50mm from standard. Could go another 60mm lower but no point on this car as I want the performance. Already scraping in and out of my drive & over speed bumps. Caught the exhaust about 3 times already!

This is how it sits now -

Really pleased with it, handles like its on rails with almost zero roll. The tyres start to lose grip before it rolls now, so firm and flat through corners. I didn't think there could be much more improvement on the standard handling but wow, it's now got even better!

Coilovers fully adjustable with 30 damping settings. Currently all on 15 which is hard already, never mind 30!

Slight issue with speed bumps!

Car looks great, but it'd better if you have the real ek9 grille.

Ah yes I see. It has been in a bump before I owned it so must have been replaced then...

The OEM ek9 grille fits a lot better with even gap and profile that meet the bow shape of the hood. Same thing with the bumper, the OEM bumper will fit much better with the hood and fenders.

I see ok.

Bumper is OEM, an OEM one was bought by me at the garages expense when it was unfortunately rolled into a wall.
