I've wanted one of these since seeing one at the motor show with my dad when I was 12. This one popped up for sale 20 minutes away from me so I couldn't resist calling the seller and asking a few questions about it, that evening I put a deposit on it :)

I picked it up on Saturday and it is very different to a Honda but the more I drive it the more I like it, and I can't stop looking at it :D They aren't beautiful cars, with a big stupid spoiler, bonnet vents and bulges everywhere but 27 year-old me loves it as much as 12 year-old me did

Couple of quick snaps on my drive (it's filthy but hey, it's a rally car)

Visually it's pretty much standard but it has a few goodies on it;

HKS Racing Suction Kit
Apexi Power FC
Apexi AVCR boost controller
HKS Hi-Power Silent catback
Walbro 255 fuel pump
AP racing clutch

Cusco coilovers
DS2500 pads all round

The previous owner said it was running around 360bhp but I'm not sure it is. My plans for it are to get it rolling roaded to check it's running ok, then fit a decat and downpipe and remap to suit, and of course it needs those stripes 8)

The exhaust is reasonably quiet inside and the coilovers ride really nicely, I'm really happy with it! It's a shame they cost so much to run as they have loads of space inside and the seats are really comfy to use.

Nice car fella, best shape and rare. I was looking at these myself just before getting the ek9. Trouble is no matter the weather your driving 80mph evrywhere because of the grip.

Love the 6 shape evos my mate has had 2 tommi editions and a load of other evos in his garage haha, expensive to run and maintain ect but i will have one at somepoint

I was like yourself wanting one since you were very young, one of the best cars I've ever had. Great fun to drive with all the power you could want and they can go anywhere to a certain extent :D I then bought a Evo 8 which is a great car aswell but the 6 was still more fun to drive, felt more aggressive...

Saw this on instagram. Looks a good buy.

Cant wait to see it once its had your touch

First proper weekend with the car means it's the first weekend tinkering :)

First job was to replace the carbon effect gear knob with a Skunk2 one, then I set about spraying the bonnet vents black, as in standard silver they look a bit daft.

Gave the car a good clean, I need to clean the engine bay too but I'll leave that til the summer. I took a before photo as I always forget to do that!

I took to Roger Clark Motorsport on friday after work as a good friend works there, they put it on the rollers for me and it made 315bhp (a lot less than the previous owners claim but tbh I was pretty sure it wasn't what he said!). It's also down on boost compared to what the boost controller is asking for (1.25 bar compred to 1.4 it's set to, they run 1 bar standard) so that's something to look at, whether it's the actuator or the boost controller itself just over-reading. And a quick peak underneath confirmed it's got a stock cat in place and a very tired looking downpipe so I'll be upgrading these ASAP.

A good service is next on the agenda I think, the air filter is certainly looking a bit tired.

Strange to keep the standard cat in. Must be strangling it.

Love the Gobstopper's!

Got the stripes on on Monday night. The pictures don't show the silver stripe on the silver car properly but you can see it in person. Really happy with the fit and finish, it's a proper Mak now :D

I also found a picture of my old autograss Mini that me and my dad painted when I was 14/15. The real thing's been a long time coming!

For the real one I've got a new air filter and a new Evo 8 actuator coming, hopefully this will help it hold boost over the whole rev range. Evo 4-6 actuators are a bit of a water trap and tend to corrode inside. I'll probably stick a decat on it too in the next few weeks :)

Very cool,
I used to do auto grass and Tarmac track junior minis back in the day as well
