I just got my rack & pinion fix last Friday and for some reason, I still have a bit of play on my steering.

So my question here is that if any of you guys that have manual steering can check your car while it being still with the motor off and move your steering wheel left and right and find out for me if you hear or feel a knocking noise while moving the steering. This will really help me out. I'm trying to see if I'm not crazy here.

Your going to tell me 42 views and no one can still help me here:(:)confused:

Do the wheels turn after the sound or with it?

Have you checked the rest of the suspension assembly to make sure there is no play in any of the components?

Yeah, I've checked just about everything. The thing is that when I grab a hold of the inner tie rod and move the steering wheel, you can feel the clunking noise. I took it back to the shop after getting it fix and he told me that he had changed it rather then re-building it again. So he was telling me that it should have a bit of play since it's a manual rack. That to me makes me think that he's full of ****. The samething happend to me last year and I didn't say anything about it and after a couple of months later, my rack took a ****. It's either I take it to someone else later down the road if it ****s up again and see if there might be a different of play on it. We will soon find out.

But for now, I still need to know if there really suppose to have play on the steering or that clunking noise.

Ok I'll go take a look at mine (I've got a manual rack too) and have a listen. I've never had any noises from it though, but then again my car is really rattly so I probably wouldn't notice :)

I would venture an opinion that the dude you took it to to have it rebuilt hasn't done anything with it, just put it back in and made up a BS excuse.

Certainly not supposed to make ANY noises or have ANY play! It's the steering for goodness' sake!

Ok, I finally found my freaking problem. It's my Skunk2 camber kit ball joint. I remember that a long time ago that the boot was torn and didn't do anything about it. So now I'm going to go to Honda and buy a boot and replace it hoping that it will be all better now.

Ok, I guess that wasn't my main problem. I still got that damn freaking noise everytime I hit a bump at low speed and on uneven road.

I need help bad. I've had this problem for the past two years and I can't find the solution to this problem. PLEASE HELP!!!

If the boot was torn on the Ball joint, you will need a new ball joint not just the boot........

You would be suprised how quickly components like that get mashed as soon as they are exposed to elements

Jack up the front end and grab the wheels one at a time and check for any play, side to side would suggest rack/tie rod issues, one of my tie rod inners came a bit loose after fitting and developed some play, new locating tab and a tighten and its been fine since

Knocking could also be your ARB drop links, check these out for play

Also what like are the shocks? Check everything and see, worth giving everything a thurough degrease, makes it easier to spot things

Well, I found out that it was my rack & pinion. The a@@holes that re-built it, screwed me really bad. The second time that I took it back to them, telling them that it was still making the knocking noise. They told me that they replaced it with another one, which was bullshit. I just took my car this morning to another shop and they had one in stock and replaced my rack & pinion and now my car is totally back to normal.

What the other guys did to my rack & pinion was welded around the nut cause they said it was cracked, and about them telling me that they put another one was a lie. So the other people that fixed it for me today told me that I'm lucky that it didn't brake, I could of lost control and could of been worse.

So, this tread can be closed, thanks everyone.
