iam looking into buying a 4,9 or 5,1 final drive for my ek9 rally car , dont no what one to go for out of m factory or gear x and weather to go straight cut or not , it is a rally car and not used on road ,

A 4.9fd is short enough and gear x would be the stronger out if the 2, most Irish rally civics use gear x. Mfactory fd kept breaking..

I've a full mfactory built box forsale if your interested. Mfactory 4.9,plated diff, synchros, bearings, seals all 1500 miles old. It's a 96 spec box so the shorter 4/5th

That may be the truth with our 1st generation 4.928's, but we discontinued those years ago and replaced them with our revised 4.923's which are currently the strongest (and lightest) 4.9 final drive on the market. I would NOT recommend the 5.1 for a rally car though.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what brand you go for; they will ALL break on a rally car, regardless of what "brand" people tell you to purchase. The only way to not break a final drive is to lift off the throttle when going "superman", which 90% of drivers are unable to do.

Put simply, purchase whatever is going to cost you cheaper to replace, because final drives will not be covered under warranty when broken in a rally car. Or you can learn to lift off the throttle at the right time.

Also, bit of advice: The shorter the ratio, the more likely it is going to break due to the smaller size teeth on the pinion gear. This why hardly anyone every breaks a 4.7 FD (including oem), whereas nearly everyone breaks a 4.9 (regardless of brand).

This is the final drive I have your newest one, awsome piece of kit coupled with diff, bearings etc completely changed my car

I have the mfactory 1st 3rd 4th 5th and had the 4.928 final drive which have been fine for over 400 stage miles without a problem with a fair few 1st in class awards
I have just upgraded to a 5.1, it's done 65 stage miles so far !

so your 4,9 seemed fine then dave , how do you find the 5,1 , and what are you doing with yuor old 4,9 ,

Sold the 4.9 to wooks on here, he was on about selling it as it didn't fit his diff, msg him
Hard to tell much difference really between the two, but the gear calculator says it's better !
I have the longer first, standard 2nd, short 3rd/4th and I have now swapped to a longer 5th so you have the best of both worlds, short 1st -4th for single venues (85 on limiter) and a longer 5th with a top end of about 110 for faster stuff

If you go for all the shortest gears it will do about 100 flat out which is ok for single venues but not for faster stuff
