Been wanting to start my own build thread for some time and finally got to it. It's not going to be a mega thread like them turbo build threads but will a least do what i can. So my civic started life as an ek4 vti with b16a2 engine and was totally converted to an ek9. the only non ek9 parts missing where the carbon fiber center console and rear ARB. The sunroof was the only real thing that gave it away as an ek4. Subframe, steering rack, 5 stud conversion, Recaro seats, steering, wheels, all was changed to ek9 spec.... and obviously a b16b engine with 98 spec s80 box. This conversion was done by my brother as he owned it at the time. He decided to sell up and snapped it away from him. Time to turn it into a real race car......

First things first.....the tyres. It had the crappiest tyres ever! Toyo T1R and God were they horrible crap! In came a set of Yoko Advan Neovas AD08R in 195/55R 15. Car totally transformed with so much better handling.

Next up was to get that b16b to fulfill its full potential with the mods it has. Luckily my brother had bought some pretty decent parts when he went to Japan. HKS induction kit, Spoon strut bar, Spoon throttle body, Skunk intake manifold, Maxim Works header, Mugen exhaust and Spoon catback.

To maximize these mods, an ECU and good map was in order. In came an AEM v2 EMS and k20 injectors. Vtec engagement lowered to 4800 and rev limiter upped to 9100rpm. This tune totally transformed the car and was ecstatic with the results. By that time my IACV had given up on me so had that replaced too.

Some weight reduction was needed so off came the A/C, rear seats & seatbelts, side torque mounts, spare wheel, jack and tools but kept the Recaros on as funds were low and could not have them replaced . Not much weight saving but its a start.

After a few months of saving up i was able to splash out on some more parts. Whiteline ARB with subframe brace, Synchrotech carbon synchros, 4th and 5th gears from s4c box, Innovative engine mounts, Whiteline shiftlink bushes, front caliper rebuild kit, Mtec grooved discs, Ferrodo DS2500 pads (not in pic), Blox subframe collars and some fresh Titan Fuchs oil. These mods had drastically increased grip on the road, shifting smoothness, increased torque on 4th and 5th gears and stopping power.

Up next was some more weight reduction. Sold the Recaro's and bought a Sparco Rev for me and an OEM ek4 passenger seat. Recaros's come in at 18kg each amounting to 36kg for the pair. The Sparco and OEM ek4 seats weighed in at 22kg making another 14kg weight saving.

Next mods up are ABS delete, Takata harness, Nardi wheel, Yellows front and rear camber arms and Project U lug nuts. Will be installing these latest mods later on this month and honestly cant wait. Not much of performance mods as such except the ABS delete which I should get a better brake pedal feel but where needed none the less.

So that's my build so far but still much much more to come. This is just the beginning and s**t will get serious once i get on to the proper engine build ;) Apart from the above mentioned parts that i have collected, on the way are a Cusco brake cylinder stopper, Cusco lower arm subframe strut bar and K-Tuned Pro Circuit short shifter. Will update the thread with some more pics when i get these parts but in the meantime below is the latest pic i took of the car after a good wash. I know its a modest build but hope u enjoyed it none the less :)

Spent the best part of the last year upgrading suspension setup, brakes, gearing and some weight reduction. Now doing some interior upgrades and next month will flock the dash, some more weight reduction by removing sunroof and all the extra crap behind the dash, fit some Defi gauges and installing an Ogura 309 series clutch. Contemplating whether to also replace my current coilovers with Yellows coilovers and external canister. I have D2 coilovers which i think are not too bad but so tempted to go for the Yellows. Done all this I will then have to decide which path to take with the engine build. Definitely will be stroking it to 1.8ltr but undecided whether to go fully forged or Type R bottom end. Also undecided whether to go turbo or NA.....decisions decisions.....will most probably go NA with bigger cams and ITB's.....maybe with nitro setup.....only time will tell......

Some more parts in the house :) Cusco brake cylinder stopper.

Finally sourced an ITR stroker kit for the engine build. Will be using CTR pistons for higher compression. Not easy sourcing such a kit over here and was really lucky to snap these up from a guy that was breaking his Integra engine.

Got some more goodies in the post today. Cusco lower arm and K-Tuned Pro Circuit B series shifter. Currently the car is undergoing some works installing the camber arms, ABS delete, Cusco brake cylinder stopper, Nardi steering, Takata harness and dash flocking. Tomorrow morning im off to the mechanic to hand over the Cusco lower arm and K-Tuned and have them installed as well while he's at it. Can't wait to have everything ready.......:nerv::nerv::nerv::nerv::nerv:

Headlining removed to start the sunroof delete process.

Fiber sunroof bung all ready to be trimmed and put in place. Original packing will be reused instead of sealer so hoping for a clean finish.

Just weighed in all the sunroof mechanism including the glass itself and it came in at a whopping 16.2kg! :eek2::eek2::eek2:

Likin this thread man should be good :) like the way u kept it as an ek4 was dreadin seein ek9 stickers on an ek4 when i was readin it Lol.

Gonna watch this anyway

Thanks mate.....there is no way in hell im going to put any Type R stickers on the car. When i first bought it, it looked just like an ek9 and the only thing that gave it away was the sunroof. My brother owned it before me and made a total 100% ek9 conversion. Looks much less like one now, in fact i have left very few ek9 cosmetic specs on it. I think i should only have the red carpets and gear knob left from an original ek9. Performance wise i have obviously left everything intact like subframe, steering rack, brakes and of course the b16b engine. Below is how the interior looked before i started transforming the car. Will post pics very soon on how it's changed from the inside as its works in progress at the moment and will also post pics of the new fiber sunroof. Dash flocking is on the cards too......

Sunroof fiber bung ready and came out perfect. Pic is crap but i will take better ones and upload them. Looks so much better than those aluminium sheet bungs with pop rivets. More expensive but worth the money.

Car been sitting in the garage for the last couple of months now and finally getting some more work done. This time on the interior to get some weight reduction after getting rid of the sunroof weight of 16kg. Dash removed and got rid of all the extra AC crap and passenger side airbag.

The AC stuff weighed in for a total of 10.5kg and another 3.5kg for the airbag. Total removed is 14kg.

Dash back in place and replacing ek9 steering wheel with a Nardi wheel and works in progress. OEM wheel weighed in at 2.8kg and Nardi wheel a mere 800g so thats another 2kg in weight saved! :naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty:

Thats more than 30kg of weight removed but i still have some more stuff to chuck out. Engine torque mounts, ABS pump after ABS removal, rear speakers and that ugly tar on the floor board. Should give me another 10kg i suppose. I was also initially thinking of flocking the dash while it was out but had a change of heart and just kept it as it was. Still not a fully blown track car yet so not worth hassling for flocking. Next up should be the Takata harness and K-Tuned short shifter which should have me sorted on the interior. More to come soon........:beer::beer::beer::beer:

Looking good. Subscribed!

Thanks mate.....my build looks so boring compared to the other full blown NA k20 build beasts or turbo builds but the car came with pretty much the best breathing mods available and only needed some "minor" improvements even though these improvements cost me quite abit. Not stroking the engine for the time being and hopefully enjoy the car with just a remapped b16b engine with as much weight reduction as possible whilst still keeping the car street legal. Might start the engine build come next November until i get all the other stuff i have in mind sorted. Very little left to do on the car after the current work im doing on her. Gauges to the monitor engine, some light body work repair to get her in perfect condition and new wheels.

Hoping the weight reduction will make some difference on track times......:nerv::nerv::nerv::nerv::nerv:

Thanks mate :)

Been meaning to update this for a few months now but just was too lazy. Finally got some muse to do so and here it goes......

ABS delete done with 40/40 prop valve and new lines.

Camber arms in place with 1.5 degrees front and 1 degree at the rear.

Cusco subframe brace installed. Thought I would have some issues with it scraping as it goes at least a full inch lower but fingers crossed till now no scrapes yet.

Nardi steering in place and a glimpse of the K-Tuned shifter at the bottom left :)

Takata harness done and interior taking shape and really loving the interior now!

A few pics from different angels of the interior. I know there many of them but really happy how it turned out.....just as I imagined it would be!

Up next will be a couple of gauges which I have already bought and soon to install. Air/fuel and oil pressure/temp gauges and I think that's enough mods on the interior. Will probably hop on to the engine build next with stroking it to 1.8ltr, aggressive cams and ITB's......at least that's the plan.

To be continued.......
