Been wanting to start my own build thread for some time and finally got to it. It's not going to be a mega thread like them turbo build threads but will a least do what i can. So my civic started life as an ek4 vti with b16a2 engine and was totally converted to an ek9. the only non ek9 parts missing where the carbon fiber center console and rear ARB. The sunroof was the only real thing that gave it away as an ek4. Subframe, steering rack, 5 stud conversion, Recaro seats, steering, wheels, all was changed to ek9 spec.... and obviously a b16b engine with 98 spec s80 box. This conversion was done by my brother as he owned it at the time. He decided to sell up and snapped it away from him. Time to turn it into a real race car......
First things first.....the tyres. It had the crappiest tyres ever! Toyo T1R and God were they horrible crap! In came a set of Yoko Advan Neovas AD08R in 195/55R 15. Car totally transformed with so much better handling.
Next up was to get that b16b to fulfill its full potential with the mods it has. Luckily my brother had bought some pretty decent parts when he went to Japan. HKS induction kit, Spoon strut bar, Spoon throttle body, Skunk intake manifold, Maxim Works header, Mugen exhaust and Spoon catback.
To maximize these mods, an ECU and good map was in order. In came an AEM v2 EMS and k20 injectors. Vtec engagement lowered to 4800 and rev limiter upped to 9100rpm. This tune totally transformed the car and was ecstatic with the results. By that time my IACV had given up on me so had that replaced too.
Some weight reduction was needed so off came the A/C, rear seats & seatbelts, side torque mounts, spare wheel, jack and tools but kept the Recaros on as funds were low and could not have them replaced . Not much weight saving but its a start.
After a few months of saving up i was able to splash out on some more parts. Whiteline ARB with subframe brace, Synchrotech carbon synchros, 4th and 5th gears from s4c box, Innovative engine mounts, Whiteline shiftlink bushes, front caliper rebuild kit, Mtec grooved discs, Ferrodo DS2500 pads (not in pic), Blox subframe collars and some fresh Titan Fuchs oil. These mods had drastically increased grip on the road, shifting smoothness, increased torque on 4th and 5th gears and stopping power.
Up next was some more weight reduction. Sold the Recaro's and bought a Sparco Rev for me and an OEM ek4 passenger seat. Recaros's come in at 18kg each amounting to 36kg for the pair. The Sparco and OEM ek4 seats weighed in at 22kg making another 14kg weight saving.
Next mods up are ABS delete, Takata harness, Nardi wheel, Yellows front and rear camber arms and Project U lug nuts. Will be installing these latest mods later on this month and honestly cant wait. Not much of performance mods as such except the ABS delete which I should get a better brake pedal feel but where needed none the less.
So that's my build so far but still much much more to come. This is just the beginning and s**t will get serious once i get on to the proper engine build Apart from the above mentioned parts that i have collected, on the way are a Cusco brake cylinder stopper, Cusco lower arm subframe strut bar and K-Tuned Pro Circuit short shifter. Will update the thread with some more pics when i get these parts but in the meantime below is the latest pic i took of the car after a good wash. I know its a modest build but hope u enjoyed it none the less
