when i am driving on full lock my car has a whining noise, but only if i am accelerating. if i am on lock and coast it in gear i get no noise but a bit of throtle and the noise is there. it happens both ways, any ideas or is it just the lsd working? i am going to change the gearbox oil this weekend anyway. also is the engine oil filter the same as a vti?

To the other question, yes the oil filter is the same.

i am not sure about this. it doesnt do it in reverse at all, and when you are in slight lock you get a knocking noise aswell. changed gearbox oil and no difference.

that sounds like you have a full limited diff...

What LSD do you have and what oil did you use? If you have a digital camera, make a short video and post it up on youtube for us to help you diagnose.

Sounds are like smells ....very hard to describe in words.... and even if you do it right... most can interpret it completely differently than what you're intending.

used the oil grade specified by the autodata book in work, the brand was morris. whats the difference between full lsd and the standard one? i will try and get a video on yuotube.

Is the noise only there for a while? Does it go after 20-30mins driving? Has it just started or has it been there since you have owned the car?

it has always made the noise but i have only had the car about 2 months. it doesnt matter how long i have bin driving. but just to clarify it only happens at very low speed. (parking)

Then it sounds like there is an aftermarket LSD installed. In Japan it's quite popular to replace the factory torsen (gear) unit for one with metal clutch packs.

Using the recommended oil from the service manual only serves to amplify the noise as the aftermarket LSD requires different oil. It would be best to try something from Motul to start, although many also like Endless.
