How do you replace lower ball joints on the lower control arms in the front ? My buddy said they sell a tool over at autozone ? But I'm not really familiar with such repairs.

You can get tools for removing the ball joint, there is a type of fork thing for separating the lower control arm. when i did it I seperated it using a small bar like this in the video YouTube - Honda painless ball joint removal

I took out the whole section containing the ball joint (making sure i tied up the drive shaft and the brake calipers. you can use a press to pop out the ball joint.
It is removed from the bottom so press down on the threaded end of the ball joint (make sure you have taken out the cir-clip from around the ball joint which prevents it from falling down i think there is one in it open to correction).

If you don't have a press you can use a heavy hammer and some persuasion, you may also need some of these :

Its been a while since I changed mine (1997 EK4 SIR ) so if any one else can add any more tips to help you out or feel free to correct me on any of the above points! best of luck :nice:

dont bother with any special tools. once u have the whole strut hub assembly out, just beat the old 1 out with a hammer. no circlips 2 worry bout on a ek4 anyway. that method in the video is handy for seperatin ball joints 2!

Hammering out and in worked for me. There are circlips on the EK4 though. just need a suitable pair of pliers for that though. (Gloves are advisable, not nice when they pop out and bite your hand!)

buy the new balljoint 1st (go for $30) on Ebay..
Take it to Firestone they charge about $15-20 to do it!

splitter doesnt remove ball joint, its just a tool that seperates it from lower arm

im not sure it can be removed while on car as hits somethin above it last time i tried, had them replaced few years ago but done by garage and arms were taken of car to do job so not a tool exists to remove them on car

I JUST did one of these. I used the good ole splitter and hammer method. I recommend buying an OEM honda balljoint instead of some one off piece. If you have issues taking off the castle nut I suggest taking the splitter, pounding it on as hard as you can and have a buddy pull down on it as hard as he can. It'll provide enough friction to allow the nut to come off. I had to do this TWICE... -_-
