Hi guys.
There are allot of people on this forum who know what there talking about with ek9's, and its and its an excellent source of knowledge. But I searched all over the forum for this and could not find any reference to it, so I thought Id ask.

Did Honda ever release a 'lightweight' ek9, i.e manual 'winding' windows, no air bags, no abs, etc?

I Realise that the ek9 is light as it is a type-r but did they do a 'hardcore' (for want of a better word) version. Sorry if this the wrong section but seemed as gooda place as any to ask.

they named it the type R 'RACE BASE' like u said manual windows no abs recaros etc

yes they did mate

Nice one dude, was abit worried there coz I bought one of these a few weeks ago.And although my mates all said it was a lightweight, the more I read on here, and all the pics I looked at I couldnt see another.

Im not saying Im not saying unique or anything, just getting a bit paranoid.

All the import paper work says ek9 type-r and it has the blue id plate on the slam pannel under the bonnet, 22mm r/arb, etc....

Just wanted to make sure. Thanks man.

race base???

didnt know it was called that!! u learn sumthing new every minuite your on this Forum:nice:

:blinx:

they are rare mate that might be why not everyone knows about them

Cheers guys, I feel better now.lol

Ill get sum pics on in the newbie section 2moro, as I havent introduced myself properly yet. Have to give it a gud wash first tho, thats if the weather lets up for 5 mins to get out there.

Any ideas on the wieght of these models? Cant be that much light than the normal version.

The N1 Race Base is different from what people call 'lightweight'.

The lightweight EK9's you see advertised were bought by people that didn't want electric mirrors etc in Japan, they are no different apart from they were bought new with less factory fitted goodies by the original owner than any other EK9.

The N1 Race Base is the EK9 which gave 5.7 seconds 0-60, it was sold to race teams etc. which would turn it into a track car as Honda still do now with DC5's etc and had no mod-cons.

I hope that's all correct ^

Ah right, I still have electric mirrors, stereo and speakers. So who ever had this first in Japan wasnt really in to mod cons then!

ah it's simply an under-specced ek9 then. not a bad thing really, they dont exactly come fully loaded to begin with :p (it's nice to have abs though, just in case...)

Yer ure right, sorry for the confusion.
I found out about the non-abs situation the hard way! lol. But Im a quick learner.

Plus having less means theres less to go wrong.lol

You say electric mirrors, are they electrically folding? What mats came with the car? Any airbags? Recaro's? A/C?

Appar. the racebase or N1 (im not sure) came with thinner, non-tinted glass to save weight aswell!

I think the N1 Race Base had certain steering elements designed to do around 25k kilometers before needing replacing, so it's probably a good thing you don't have one

no power steering so came with different rack than standard ek9, many also came with lighter/different crank pulley

No the mirrors dont fold on mine, there just adjustable from the little control right of the steering wheel. And the rear windsreen and 3/4 windows are tinted. I did have aircon, but Ive taken it out already. The carpets are the standard red ones with red matts. It does have Recaro's but there not like the normal ones, mine have the recoaro logo sewn above the black harness slots in big black stitching.

I think it is just a de-specd normal EK9.

Did they make the same kind of thing with the DC2, an N1 Racebase model?

thought this might interest you lot ;-)....

This is a lightweight edition of the ek9, produced by Honda for the Japanese market. These models are very rare in the UK. This is a proper track car but can also be used on the road as a daily runner. This car also benefits from 5 extra bhp from the normal ek9 so is 190 bhp standard.

To save the weight the car has no abs, aerial, airbags, red recaro interior, electric windows and no sound deadening.

The car has power steering which is very responsive and gives a lot of control. There is also air conditioning fitted due to the heat in Japan.

not wanting to start a war here but the whole weight thing is very underestimated imo with little hatch's like ek's power wieght is everything.. i mean u can try make more power wid expensive n/a or turbo tuning but what does that do to the cornering? i cant help feelin that with much over 230bhp ud start to loose the feel of the car??

well i have a ek4 SiR and recently a close mate bought a ek9 an honestly there cant be anything in it really for 15bhp extra but again mine has NO airbags, abs, sunroof, recaros, spoiler, aircon, stripped boot but still wid lsd s4c box but did suprise us both as first PROPER go in a ek9 didnt disapoint by far alot quicker than his ek4 vti however that vti is LOW and seemed quite abit quicker past 130 top end like 150 3 up was a fact thought id share my thoughts..

now im sortin a exedy clutch flywheel see if i can upset him lol!!

EK's handle very well and with the right suspension set-up/geo etc, they are still well planted with power way over 230bhp :nice:

Oooops wrong log in :nono:
