knocking sound from rear suspension

ok, so I recently fitted my Ground Control and Koni Yellow shocks.

Now am getting a knocking sound coming from the rear which
is annoying as it happens everytime I hit a little or large bump!! :angry2:

So I get under the car and check all the bolts etc and
everything seems fine.

Now here is what I figured, which could be where the sound is coming from!
Please coment and let me know if this could be correct or if I should
check out for anything else?

See pic below. (not from MY car)

When I was under the car (car jacked up)
If I hold the sleeve over and push upwards,
it moves up a little with the spring.

And when I release it, the sleeve over (marked in Red arrow)
hits the bottom of the shock (marked in Black arrow) and
this causes the knock sound I get. (So I think)

So when driving, is it correct in saying that when I hit a bump,
the spring moves up causing the sleeve over to Move up a tad bit
and after the bump it comes down causing the sleeve over to move down
and then hits the Shock bottom each time?

Does anyone using Ground Control have this problem?
Any coments / feedback / suggestions on what I could do?

From what I could see, everything else seems fine.
Will double check the suspension tomorrow morning.

When I had the Cusco coilover I never had this sound
although the ride was hard, it never knocked.

Only after the Ground Control was fitted, then came the sound!

ok, after reading a few post on here I see there are
a few other people that had similar problems.

Think my explaination above of what I thought it could be -
Well, Is wrong!!

So will be checking the following as suggested in other post and by you guys.
Thanks. :)

ARB Links for movement .
Sway bar end links.
RTA Bushes.
Trailing arm Bushes and play on them.
LCA bushes.

Also read some suggestions about "spring having enough pre load"
dont know what it means but will look into it! :)
Tension on Springs.
Or Spring maybe dislocating over bumps.

why dont you check your swaybar endlinks?

ok, been a long morning in Traffic.
Finally found where the knock sound is coming from -

Swaybar endlinks - Thanks Rage :nice:

Removed one and drove the car, No sound!!! Yay!
so just left the one off for now.
Will replace once I get them orderd from Honda.

:)

Just so you know, unless you are tuning for some specific track run, the springs should have almost no preload (how much you use the screw underneath the spring to compress it). You should be able to just rotate the spring in a circle with some tension with the coilover out of the car.

I had a knock coming from the rear of my car, and I changed the drop links first but it didn't cure the problem. yesterday I changed the anti-roll bar and when I took it off the eyelets in the end of the ARB were slightly ovaled, causing play and cusing the ARB to knock.

I have come across numerous posts of people asking what could the knocking be ? and not many people think of changing the ARB its self and its the ARB that is the problem. all I'm saying is just because you say you removed the links it maybe the ARB.

Ummm, ok, before I buy the drop links I will have a look at the ARB as well.
thanks for the heads-up. :thanks:
Drop links are going to cost about 100 pounds for both!!!
so dont want to buy that and they still have the problem.

i had a terrible knocking noise coming from my jordan!
i put it up on the ramp to find my drop links were away i have changed them and the noise has gone!
ur situaution sounds exactly like mine was!!

hope this helps!

I too had some knocks from the rear of mine .. I came up with 2 problems .. First ... my exhaust ... where the arms are attached to the hangers ... the arms were hitting part of my chasis.... next ... I had coilovers .. And the adjustment sleeve was knocking one that very same part that u have marked in black and red .... THAT'S exactly what ur problem is .. How to fix it ? Not too sure ... what I did was traded for tien Springs and Tokico struts ... no more coilovers for me .. For now ...hehe

Hope this helps

I'm having the same problem from the rear left, I'll try and check out my ARB and swaybar endlinks sometime soon..

ok, just an update here.

I managed to get the rear drop links from Honda, fitted them
about a month back and guess what, the Knock sound was still there.
So, back to checking were it was coming from and had to take
it to Honda. They took the shocks (koni yellow) out to check that
everything was fine, and it was!

Then the last thing they checked was the bushes on the rear sway bars....
these bits marked it red below pic. (not from my car)
They had the car up on the lift! pushed on them and it made the knock sound.
Now they don’t have stock of these but cause they will have to import for me as they
are differnt size to the EK4 which we get there.

Anyways, they just fitted inserts between the bushes
and the sway bar and the sound is no longer there...Yay yay!!!

So just some FYI if anyone else has this problem.
