Knocking from rear (teins?)

Got myself an ek9 as some as you may know.
It has tein flex coilovers fitted.
Problem is it seems the rear right (drivers) side is knocking.
I first thought it was a loose bumper but now that's all sorted,
When boot is open if I kinda push down and bounce the car it clunks as the shock compresses (only the right side!)

Not sure how long the teins have been on there, or when they were bought etc.
Only one side knocks, other side is silent so I plan to swap them over at weekend to confirm its a bad shock.

If it is a bad shock, what do I do? Send to tein? Send to another rebuilder?

Any other possibilities?
I can replicated by simply pushing down on car.

is it the lower control arms clunking against your exhaust? are some of your exhaust rubber mounts fooked? can be why.

For sure isn't exhaust noise, it's all firm.
Somewhere In wheel arch and sounds high up hence my thoughts shock is fooked. :(

have you checked your anti-roll bar links? this would be my first point of call as it is verry common amongst civics and does sound very similar to when a shocker knocks...

I haven't.
Will investigate that though.
Do you just generally 'bounce' or press down the car and get a friend to listen??

Hard to tell its source!

Would ARB bushes knock when sitting still just on compression?

Get down under tthe rear the car and shake the link about, if it moves about or you can feel play in it (clunking/ratteling) then its goosed :)

The best way to check these is woth the weight on the suspension.

And yes they would do it worse than if the car was jacked up with the weight off the suspension.

Hope this helps :nice:

Little update:
Softened off the shock last night all the way and drove to work this morning (30miles) and I sware it was quieter?
Got out and tried to make it knock by bouncing down but couldn't hear anything??
May just be because of more background noise I couldn't notice it.

had the same problem .. knocking sound every time i go over uneven road.
initially thought it was the plastic trims.. so had them removed still the knocking persist.
then had the ARB removed and inspected found the end links were shot..
now driving with out ARB and no sound ..

maybe i should also try that... but removing the endlinks isn't a nice job. Heard that the screws are little bit rusty

I had the same problem on my Tein Coilovers. Went to the rear and tightend up the shocks (the bolt/nut loosend up a lil bit) and solved the clunking problem. Quiet as a mouse now...or as quiet as a 12 yr old car with a B18CR in it could be. My coilovers tend to loosen up a lot on the roads here in the UK, i keep them snug and do not get the problem anymore.

Also give the bar a tug up and down at the middle and see if its moving in the bushes, even slight movement in these can make them knock quite alot. I swapped mine to find that the bar its self had worn slightly, easily fixed with several layers of insulation tape (only a temp measure but it hasnt nocked since and its been a few months now)

If I had EG rear shocks on stock EK lca's, would it cause a clunking sound??? Because of the difference in fork width??
