A buddy of mine might be getting an ep3 and he will sell me a kseries motor- K20a3 block with a k20a head- and i was gonna swap that in my ek hatch. I was just looking for some feedback on this swap and wondering what yall though about it. Thanks! Lance

oh well thanks lol i type in the search box k20a3 block with k20a head but didnt really see anything. guess i didnt look hard enough lol thanks though!

Don't think it's worth the trouble. From what I've found ( K20A2 vs K20A3 - HondaSwap Forums ) the K20a3 is not only different to the Type R (a) engine in the head but also the block. Not sure how that will work out but for sure is that the a2 is the stronger engine. a3 gearbox is also a 5speed, not a 6speed. Apart from the fact that you'll be going through a lot of trouble pairing the head and block and then get a proper tune and still not have the power of the K20a. I would get a K20A(2), they're not that expensive actually, especially if you look at the total costs of a swap it isn't that much extra money. And if it's too much I think you'd be better of with a B18C swap :)

Sorry for my previous post, I didn't read it right and you have a different subject than a normal K20 swap. Still, I hope you can use that other thread :)

what you really need is a k24a2 block from a tsx and put the k20a2 head
k20a3 block are worthless. but then again if it come's to budget go right ahead like you said anything will be better thatn what you probably have right now

yeah its all good jt. the thing is i could get the motor for 2gs with the tranny, wiring harness and motor mounts, but would need to get the shift box, ecu and axles. What i really what is the JDM k20a....but dont we all who wants to do a k swap. The thing is if i would do this i mean i would have all kswap parts in the car then when i can afford it i can just buy the jdm motor and swap it in and be done. Another thing is if my friend doesnt get the ep3 he has a motor thats a b18 block with a b16 head(poor mans type r lol) he would sell me that motor for 2gs as well but that would come with everything to get the car on the road right now. Im still kicking the idea around. Yeah as of now i have no motor so my car is just sitting there with no heart :( so really right now anything would be nice

2gs? Does that mean 2000? Don't forget the other costs, K20 swap is nice but costs will add up quickly. I expect it to be more expensive than a B18C-R swap but you will probably still be slower/not really faster with that K20a3/K20a combination, not to mention the lack of an LSD that the B18C-R tranny (S80) does have.

I agree with oscarsayco, if you do it get a K24 block. Or at least K20a block. Otherwise it's wasted trouble imho.

Yeah sorry about the 2000 dollars. Yeah i know that they have other cost too...like the hondata k pro, the shift box the mounts the wiring harness and all that other good stuff. Now since yall mention the k24 my friend said swapping a k24 head on the k20a3 would be better than what it is right now. Is that any good? I mean at this point i would rather the b series and then just do the kswap in the future.

I have been pricing around different websites and just decided that im gonna do the b swap with a b18c type r bc the pricing isnt really that bad in my opinion. After looking at a few websites the lowest i found so far was $3,500 for a 96 for everything so thats a pretty solid price. The average i saw is about $3,800.

K24 head with K20a3 block does NOT make any sense. K24 block with K20A head however does. But good to see that you've made your decision, I think you're doing the right thing :)

Yeah I've learned abjuring more since then so yeah much better decision. But I am going a little different route instead of buying the full motor for $3800 I bought a JDM B18c block from my friend with brand new axles and a hondata s200 ecu. Now I'm just looking for a b16 head and I'm building this motor myself.
