K-swap or Basic Turbo setup

Depends how many upgrades you pick from the kit, can easily be £2100 then fitting and mapping on top!

Then you need to think about ECU, clutch + flywheel before kit and loads of things after it may be required: tires, brakes etc

All opinions obviously :nice:

This is 100% spot on youll spend more money upgrading the rest of the car to cope with the power than on a turbo kit, its never ending lol

You would be better off fitting a b18c4, there much better suited to boost in standard form than a b18c type r engine. You will pick up a c4 for 300-400 pounds?! and get closer to 1k for your type r engine which leaves you with some funds to buy additional items that you will need i.e injectors.

No brainer really, the money from the c6 will pay for the turbo itself. Then you just need to buy the manifold etc.

1, cant argue really.
2, safer in what way?
3, debatable
4, il give you that one:))

Godfridge,
I own a turbo Honda and have been in a K20, both have there pros and cons, what is the car used for, and what do you want from it?
If you spec the right turbo etc then itl be quicker than a K20 everywhere.

Murray

Safer in the sense you don't have to worry to much about ur turbo or bottom end blowing, but iv never owned a civic turbo I'm guessing there properly stronger than other turbo's

Was looking at r33 skylines. But really I want a manual r34 , the GTT would do me, aslongs it's not semi automatic. Took to skylines after being in a friend's gtr, spent a fortune on it was limited to 5k revs 380bhp to run the parts in then be mapped up to 600bhp. The noise I just fell for and then was always on pistonheads dreaming

I see what you are saying but I just looked on ebay to find b18c4 to be 7 or 800 quid, with 100k on it? Plus you have no idea how well the thing runs. Then you are forgetting the cost of the labour for engine transplant. Realisticly then ok so you will have to run less boost on a b18c6 so what power can u run safe in comparison with a b18c4 ? You only need so much power in a fwd anyway my friends rotrex ep3 can't use all its power even with LSD good tyres and suspension set up

I was after a skyline aswel a gtr I don't know much about them but I just liked the look of them, instead bough an evo 6 rs tommy

I had this dilemma a few months ago and now im building a bossted b18c4 eg with a Race-Tech turbo kit :nice:

Any comment for b18c6 turbo then to run it safe ? As I said I don't want an engine transplant unless it was k20 then I can't justify it enough for me personally.

Go boost :) I looked into doing a k swap and its mega money and I wouldn't really know where to start. So now I'm starting to peace together a turbo kit for my ek9 but I'm going to be using a c4 bottom end. Your from fife? My mate just picked up a 18c4 from outside Leven a couple of months ago for 450 so if you keep looking you will find one for cheep and like the other guys say if you go boost find a c4 and use that :). I don't know what power a boosted b18c6 will handle with standerd internals but I was recommended no more than 6psi 220bhp on my b16b because of high completion ratios that's why I'm going with b18c4 bottom end so I can go for the 300bhp that I'm wanting and hopefully it will be fine.
