K-swap or Basic Turbo setup

I was planning to turbo but I changed my mind and going for k-swap, I have not driven neither of these yet but I chose k-swap for the simple reason 1 it remains N/A and 2 I believe its safer than a turbo, 3 better for everyday drive, and 4 a lot easier to maintain.

4 very good points there. I ask as I want a skyline but insurance rapes me so I am considering these options now

B series turbo ,, I've had both a k swapped car and a couple of boosted civics

A basic setup will be cheaper than a k swap , yet much more fun

I have had a K20 civic EM2 coupe and it was good. I then built a turbo B18 and love it. Way more fun to drive and can be used everyday.

Ive always wondered what are k swaps like as dailys, is the sump clearance and driveshaft angles driven on bumpy roads and speed bumps ok without lifting it like a monster truck?

1, cant argue really.
2, safer in what way?
3, debatable
4, il give you that one:))

Godfridge,
I own a turbo Honda and have been in a K20, both have there pros and cons, what is the car used for, and what do you want from it?
If you spec the right turbo etc then itl be quicker than a K20 everywhere.

How much could you be looking at too boost a b18 safely to say 280-300bhp?

Was going to sell this car I want a skyline but cant justify the insurance and mpg. The car will make a 50mile round trip to work 4 days a week, maybe another 50 to 100 on the 3 days off with the odd quarter mile attendance. The race tech basic turbo kit looks good. Plus I'd hope the b18c6 is ok to turbo as 2 much hassle getting a c4 I'd prefer the c6 if can be tuned safe

A b18c4 would handle that on stock internals.
So just a kit from race tech plus mapping...
Under £2k easily if you buy smart

How about a b18c? Iv read that b18c4's take better too boost?
I saw that the race tech kit is just over £1500.
Is that all you really need and a map?
What are boosted b series like to drive daily? Much different in fuel consumption?

Apparently mpg will be the same if not better lol ,,

Not bad at all to drive daily , just have to make sure you let it warm up And cool down

Depends how many upgrades you pick from the kit, can easily be £2100 then fitting and mapping on top!

Then you need to think about ECU, clutch + flywheel before kit and loads of things after it may be required: tires, brakes etc

All opinions obviously :nice:

I have a act clutch and fidanza flywheel.
Got the ep3 front and 98spec rear upgrade and run federal Rsr tyres already.
Guessing I'd have to get a obd2a - obd1 harness and a p28/30 for mapping.
Any idea how much it is to get a full map on a boosted honda?
Are standard fuel pump/injectors enough?

To go down the turbo route is the cheaper option but it's not cheap! You probably won't be able to run that much boost if your using your c6 cr is too high.

Standard injectors are a no no, the pump might aswell be changed as its now been in there way over 10 years.
Suspension bushes need looked at also, any bush thats slightly perished will be destroyed in no time with alot more power and torque.

What about turbo a b18c6 what power can you run with stock internals? I can't justify fitting a b18c4 . If you are going to engine change then stick a k20 in. Preferably I don't want to change my engine

The car is having a full suspension overhaul end of the month with new camber arms, bushes, drop links, ball joints, track rod ends, subframe collars, pretty much everything is being done so the car will be we'll up to scratch.

You would be better off fitting a b18c4, there much better suited to boost in standard form than a b18c type r engine. You will pick up a c4 for 300-400 pounds?! and get closer to 1k for your type r engine which leaves you with some funds to buy additional items that you will need i.e injectors.
