I know this is a stupid question but i don't know.
When people talk about engine compressions what do they mean by it?
Because i know some products. cams, pistons, rods etc are build for lower compression in the engine and some for higher compression. Wouldn't higher compression mean more BHP?

i agree with the above post, wiki is the way to go for unasnwered questions many times.

The simplest way to explain compression:

The amount that the piston compresses the air/fuel misture before ignition.

I know jack about compression either!

I have learnt a lot about tuning from owning other cars but never really read into compression.

But from the simple explanation Blinx has given, I would assume higher compression means more power as there is a larger mixture of fuel and oxygen to ignite meaning bigger combustion=more power?

However, are there any negatives to higher compression like response?

Higher compression is higher for N/A car then Turbo as the the air is forced into the engine whilst the N/A uses air from outside atmosphere. the more air can be compressed the ahigher the fuel will burn.
