JohnTurbo's B18C EK4 Race Car

Great progress mate, the fiberglass bonnet that I fitted doesnt seem to have as much clearance as the OEM one and with the b16b deck height being about 10mm taller that's your clearance issue.

You could always trim abit out of the underside rib on the bonnet where it catches

That exeedy clutch was one I took out of a previous DC2 that I had so there wasnt much meat on it when I fitted it but I knew it would last a while anyway. You cant go wrong with a good OEM Type-R clutch in my opinion and they have never let me down on the track

Even though the b16a is a great motor, the b16b is just so much better in the way it was built with the extra balancing, higher lift and duration cams, compression and stronger internals etc :)

I'm a bit blown away that people swap out the 16B...it spins up in 2nd and 3rd now.
- Albeit cold wet roads, but its fooking quick.

I mostly wanted the durability -8600rpm still feels a bit nuts.

Exactly!! Swapping a high reving Healthy b16b out for a potentialy smokey b18c for an extra 15 ft.lbs is pointless imo. B16b with gearing mods is a much better option imo

I had my old b16b ek9 mapped my henry Roy (one of the best honda tuners about) he raised the rev limit to 9000rpm and he said that its safe to rev to that all day long in the short stroke CTR engine :))

My b16b made 204bhp and 131 ft.lbs with breathing mods and mapped on a chipped p28 ecu

Been spending money again....

Trailer is 170mm wide. The car is ~10mm wider so I'm widening the trailer 30mm at the moment and this is hard bleeding work. All the 19mm a/f bits are rusty and very tight.

Another note - just totted up and have spent £2835 since October in parts alone!
(Excluding trailer of course)

Scary how these things add up. Its now a £7.5k Civic.

Lol it's a dear hobbie and there is always something to upgrade.

Good work mate, worth every penny for a car that's going to be as competitive and hopefully reliable is this one :)

Shiney new camcover. - As I said the point was actually that i wanted a 2nd cam cover so I could seal up the B16A2 I took out. But its pretty!

While the leads were off I did a compression check - with a little trepidation. I don't have much history from head or block. It turns out the engine is in good shape with all 4 cylinders exactly 14.5bar - and I did the test without the throttle open which tends to lower readings a touch.

Next up was the front towing eye. I used a captive 8mm hole in the front panel near the end of the chassis leg. Ideally placed to line up with the vents, with a little trimming.

Finally, the car had a pair of OMP 4 point harnesses - I wanted a drivers 6 point which means two extra eyes needed under the seat...

First hole..

Front underside with correct spreader plates.

how did you fixed the belt @ the tunnel side ?

There is no threaded plate on the tunnel side as the standard seatbelt mount is on the side of the seat.

I drilled a hole in the tunnel and made a threaded spreader plate for the tunnel (with steel plate and a wheel nut with the end cut off then welded onto the plate) I used sealer on the plate to keep any moisture out

Haha I am in the same boat!

Great build man :)

Thanks guys! Easy to keep buying bits aint it!
Trying to start toning it down a bit but we'll see!

Went to Autosport and got flame retardant padding from Tweaks. They gave me a good old discount! There was 20% on some things. I have to have this according to blue book, and have been trying to stick to White/Red and a touch of blue.

Drilling my bonnet for the pins was one of those slightly itchy moments, but I've not bought the thing to polish it. This isn't me being a bloody ricer either, again, blue book dictates bonnet pins for GRP bonnets.

Next up was the pulls for my battery isolator and fire system (both unfitted).
Handily there was a Civic cup car at Autosport so I looked for where they'd put em. Both fitted to the scuttle panel, then threadted through a bung behind the heater. (I still have this and aim to keep it). Stickers applied too.

Looking more racecar.

These things however I was kinda tricked by...
Friend told me they were to retain the boot if you are rear ended. I decided thats not it - they're actually for deleting the catch, and I don't plan to do this just now. I've not fitted them with enough preload for that purpose either, but they can stay put.

Finally - rear TRS towing loop, matching the front.
