JDM EK9 Race car project nearing completion

That first picture looks like death on wheels mate. Love it, As said great seeing an ek taken to this level

Thanks guys!

It'll be slow progress the closer we get to the minimum weight allowed by the rules but I'm sure it'll be worth it.

I'll run a season just with the body mods (light weight) and then do an engine rebuild after next year.

WOW, seeing this thing goin down the road would just make my day haha, colour schemes have all been perfect imho too

Sometimes I wish that I COULD drive it on the road - not that I EVER do anymore - merely for the fact that getting to wheel alignments doen't take half the day because of having to load/unload trailer at each end...

But then there would have to be some sort of compromise to allow it to still be a road car, and that makes up my mind for me...

No compromise!

Got a couple of teaser pics of the wheels before they go for painting but I can't find the USB adaptor for the Canon DSLR :(

Will keep looking though!!!

First pics of many, these are taken at the workshop. The car is getting ready for weight reduction, as you can see some of the extra skin around the rear guards has already gone!

More soon - it'll really start to get along once the inside has been cut out!

Finally got some pics of the wheels:

WedsSport SA-70
17x8
+32

Currently fitted with Dunlop 240/625/17 slicks (way too big for a little (and soon to be much lighter!) EK9.

I have ordered Hankook F200 slicks in 215/615/17 which will be perfect! Front will run medium compound and the rear will run soft.

Enjoy the pics, I am waiting for more from the workshop, the floor should have been cut out today!

Well not much to report apart from the car goin on a diet!

Got a few parts including:

Oil cooler with remote filter relocation
Full size (DC2) radiator
Spherical RTA bushes
Spherical toe adjusters (rear)
SARD fuel pressure regulator and wiring

Here are some pics of the weight reduction starting to happen. Will be a long(ish) process, but should be well under 900Kg when finished!

You might be thinking "what the hell is going to fill the gaps?"

Just you wait.

Nuff said.

Well cutting is pretty much done, and now just waiting on a couple of bits before the undertray can be installed and the fuel cell sorted.

The rear suspension has been upgraded to spherical bushes in the RTA, and toe arms. Camber arms will follow, with the RTA bushes being the last to be done. It's all a metter of money of course!

They guys will start on the stitch weldiing of the panels around and on the rear sub frame, starting to come together!

Here are the latset pics, I am expecting the good stuff to start next week.

Road legal ham!?Impressive, in Portugal you would see your car escaping between yor fingers by police directly to pound!
Impressive, very nice ek!!

Wow Tim, your car just gets crazier and crazier! :) Can't wait to see it once you've finished with all the weight loss!!

Thanks guys!

Unfortunately not road legal any more though, but who cares? It's gonna be fast...

I hope...:nerv:

Awsome build dude, just keeps getting better!

What spoiler is this? Looks like a spoon, but almost longer?

DSC00159.jpg

It's a Spoon "style rear wing.

There was no way I was going to spend the coin on original, especially when it doesn't do what I want it to!

The original Spoon wing has bolts that go through the hatch and into the wing, where this one has studs that extend down through the wing with nuts holding it on. As it sits at the moment I have only spaced it about 10mm at the back to raise the tail slightly, but with slots instead of holes in the rearmost holes in the tail there is enough length in the studs to get 30-40mm of spaces in there to adjust the attack angle of the wing, therefore altering the downforce it provides, rather than just smoothing the air flow.

True story!

Glad you guys like it, there should be much more progress next week, got a new radiator going in along with oil cooler, new breather setup, fuel cell, body mods, and a total overhaul of the exterior.

You lot won't believe your eyes when it's done, it'll be one of the most unique EK9s you'd find anywhere!

Got some more pics via email yesterday, things look to be progressing well.

The workshop is still waiting for some bits to arrive before they can start panelling the floor, that's where the real magic will happen.

Enjoy the pics anyhow!
