thats an AC compressor belt tensioner pulley. and the engine will run fine without it but your ac wont work as ther wont be any belt turning it.

So what did you do?... what happened?

PHEW! This happened AGES ago, a day or two after i had my timing belt done by a so called 'mastertech' was driving along and the thing come off with an almighty bang. I assumed he would have to take this part off to get to do the timing?
Pulled over and it was sat lying across some other belts so i took it out. I thought it was the ac pully but i wanted to make sure as i hadn't seen a crank pully before and the marks on the pully looked similar to me.

cheers for clearing up though :nice:

Hey anyone ever replaced a crank pulley on a b18c5, and any inside on oem or aftermarket?

It is not advised to fit these pulleys on B18s. Contrary to popular belief it is NOTHING to do with balancing but an issue of harmonics, the B18 being longer stroke encounters these at a different (most likely lower) RPM range than the B16 and they can be destructive to bearings if they are encountered for long periods of time undamped.

Bear in mind a 'long time' in harmonics may be a matter of seconds.
