ok so just changed the headgasket on a b16a2 and the car wont start now

it starts very roughly and dies instantly

i checked the timing there and seemed to be out one tooth at the crank pulley so redid the timing belt, and now as im cranking it by hand i can actually hear air escaping somewhere , happens on all 4 cylinders :((

the engine is b16a2 bottom end with 81.5mm pct pistons and CTR head

im going to do a compression test later but i can imagine there wont be good compression.

could i have bent valves cranking by hand/ trying to start it ?

its possible you may have bent valves trying to start it but i highly doubt youd bend valves by hand. my advice would be if you can hear air escaping to do a leak down test then youl know where the air is escaping from and you can go from there

il have to bring it to a garage for a leakdown test ya ??

its very easy to hear the air escaping , if i did the headgasket wrong and it hasnt sealed properly you wouldnt be able to hear air escaping would you ?

either way if its valves or headgasket, head has to come off ??

Are you sure you are not just hearing air escaping on the exhaust strokes ? Compression is built when you have the spark plugs in

Got the TPS and MAP plugs the wrong way round?
Earth wire on the thermostat housing?
Dunx

unless you have a leak down tester and a air line .
if the headgasket isnt sealed properly then yea i suppose you would hear it escaping. as said are you sure its not just escaping on the exhaust stroke ?
