Been a while since i posted on this forum as i have pretty much finished the work on my EK4

My key has developed an intermittent issue and wont start the car sometimes,

ill put the key in the barrel and turn it, the green light doesnt stop flashing
remove key and try again, doesnt stop flashing
eventually (20-50) times the green light goes out, turn the key further and car starts and runs absolutely fine

i am running a chipped OBD1 ecu from Htune, mapped by Romain at Eurospec, i was led to believe these ecu's dont have an immobilizing feature?

Anyone else had this issue? its really annoying having to turn the key so many times before the car will actually start

It's your ignition switch mate , had that problem,
And the car would turn off sometimes when driving, that happened once , so I went and got a ignition switch and no more problems.
Having a bunch of keys hanging from ignition will not help also .

Hmm car has never switched off while driving it just seems like it has a very hard time reading the code from the key/transponder

Im assuming the ignition switch just makes the connections?

ive had a bunch of keys cut and apparently "chipped" by CIA, obviously non of them work, tried holding them next to ignition no joy

Cheers

I'm also sure obd1 ecu don't have immobilisers . Ye mate that only happened once .
But car not starting was a lot , you turn the key and nothing, when your car acts up , let the key flick back and try again, seemed to work for me sometimes.

funny how i just opened the thread and i found the issue -.-

Its definitely the little black plastic ring that goes around the ignition barrel with the 2 wires going to it..

When its in the original position on the barrel it doesnt work, pop the plastic ring off and slide it up to the key, works everytime, cant believe i didnt try this before actually annoyed at myself

no numbers on it bearing in mind, know what its called :S
