ideal civic to tune

What would be the ideal civic under £1000 to buy and start modifing it and taking out the back seats and start adding jdm parts to speed it up. i was thinking of a 1.6 esi. anyone got any ideas? i don't want to spend to much money as i will be modifing it bit by bit
