What I found that disturbed me is..

the headlights look like vti headlights sprayed in black. there is no lense cover on the ek9 lights.
also, the 96-98 spec grill includes 3 pieces. the mesh should also be metal. also, there is a black piece of plastic that sit in the middle of the grill (behind the mesh; part of the b;ack frame)
the one on the pic is not genuine if made for the 96.

hmm, just correcting babyface about the lens cover. 97-98 models have lens cover where as 99-00 doesn't.

1) The headlights inner cast design doesn't seem right. And the colour is normally shadow chrome. The colour looks a bit thick to be shadow chrome, so I don't think it's genuine. Either custom or replica. You can check the headlight cover to find a 'HONDA' logo.

2) Normally the front grill comes in 2 piece, 1 the black plastic grill mount and the painted grill cover. I've got a spare new genuine one at home and it's not metal mesh. Yours seems like a 1 piece which all replicas are like. :nice:

Sorry but, your friend sold you replica stuff :(

woops, thanks J :)
i;ve never owned a pre facelift. just assumed it was the same as the facelift type r

so you are saying that for CTR 96-spec headlights it has a diffuser or hat?now that is new..there is a HONDA logo on the headlight cover..is there any way to check if it is painted?

So the mesh grille is actually a replica?=( So that is one down..

Need more inputs for the headlights..

regarding the grille: you should find a stamped or casted partnumber with "honda" imprint somewhere on the inside i think. allmost al honda plastic parts have this. also like others told the prefaclift ist a three-piece kit with metal mesh the frame and the black plastic item!

you can check if the headlights have been opened on the sealing (baked :)) for spraying it inside. also you should find the JDM- "E"-Number on the clear part of the headlight. its somewhere at the SAE / DOT emblem and should be "E13" for japanese market i think, in LHD-driven europe we have "E12" and in the US it's something different i think ;)

btw: prefacelift really look like that, but i also think they look a little faky but it's hard to say on used parts if you don't got em in your hands :D

I also noticed the sealant is all over the headlight..I'll check the JDM markings..

do you happen to know if 96 spec headlights has diffuser/cap/hat?

actually, the 99-00 grill is 2 piece, and JDMjunkies might be right about the 97-98 grill being a 3 piece and metal mesh. I'll have to open up my box and post up pics for you. :D

Sorry babyface, you might be right about the metal mesh. I was confused... :nice:

I've got brand new 97-98 spec headlights at home as well... so I'll take pics of these too for you.. :nice: But I've found a pic of one of my wrecked one that came with my car originally... because mine is a 97model that I converted from. I was planning to advertise these on ebay but never got the chance to do it. It's only for 1 side.

I'll post some more of the new ones and the grill later. Click on the pics for the bigger image

This is what the real one looks like
