Higmeisters K20 DC2

@Higmeister meister sounds good mate :) will be worth the wait and with the weather about to change soon enough i doubt youll really be missing any decent track/driving time. Quick one, how did you go about degreasing the engine/box ? you planning on painting it ?
I've barely driven the car this year so have totally gotten over not driving it haha. In my mind the car is now pretty much off the road for winter.

To degrease it I used some V-power and subbed it down which worked very well. I then got some Gunk from Halfords which took everything else off. Yeah Going to give it a lick of paint as it out

sounds about right mate thats what i plan on doing with whatever setup i decide to go for clean it all up etc, look forward to more updates !

As above, I used this stuff to degrease the engine. Worked pretty well;

Now that its a little cleaner, time to take the gearbox, clutch and flywheel off and get it up on and engine stand to do some further work.

good old gunk used that before but was always with the engine in the car lol, what work you doing do it :) ?

Timing chain and Tensioner and going to to a leak down test while I'm at it to make sure everything is alright. I was going to drop in some DC5 or FD2 cams but I've now decided just to keep my money and invest it in something else for the car

Off topic man sorry, do you cycle? i see your strava thing and wonder if u go to glentress?

Yeah, but I have a road bike. I'm waning to get into some downhill trails at some point, but need to get a MTB first haha.

What about yourself?

Well done for getting stuck in and doing this your self, especially as you say you have no real experience.
Respect for that:nice:
Looks like you've done your homework
Coming along nice

Yeah i have been a few times, its amazing up there and its a great workout but doesnt feel like it because the downhill is the reward.

I done that pedal for Scotlanf this year

I'm only going to go so far going it alone. Just doing what I feel comfortable doing. I'll be passing some of the stuff on to the guys at Automek. Luckily I'm good friends with them so I'll still be helping them out and getting my hands dirty. Still getting some sense of achievement from doing what I'm doing.

Nice one. How did you get on? I'm thinking about doing it next year. Get a few of us and try and raise some money for charity. The route looks fairly straightforward.

What bike do you have?

Yeah i done good man, only took me a couple of hours and i only stopped twice at two of the stops, lots of hills at points and stopping because of traffic a few times.

I have a Scott 29er

Got the engine up on a stand and gave it a lick of paint. Tidied up not too bad. Just need to get the rocker cover sprayed.

Dragged it through to the workshop to do a leak down on the engine and everything is spot on :))

The timing chain had stretched a little, so chain and tensioner will be getting replaced. Will be a lot easier with the engine out to change it

Engines looking good man!
You wont regret the swap, different kind of animal with the K20 in. I went for the dc5 gearbox in mine, makes a big difference over the ep3 one!

Is it noticeable? I was thinking about dropping in a 5.1 final drive at some point.

Are you running the standard diff in the DC5 box?

Big difference! I was driving an ep3 daily while I was building the dc2 and it was a night and day difference with the shorter ratios and lsd.

Yeah I have the standard lsd in the dc5 gearbox

looking good andrew :) if you need a place to get the rocker done fire me a pm :)

Haha yous got me. The build is a little further on than this but it's not far off. Just some catching up to do.

Rockercover has already painted by Spooner Restorations in Nimbus Grey. Done an amazing job. I'm still unsure of the colour myself. Just need to see it in the car to make up my mind.

The plug cover is just primed atm. It's just going to be painted black for now...
